Okay, I've got 3 colors of fabric to make a table runner for my bathroom cart. The cart top is 13 1/2'' x 28''. See, I have a tropical fish wallpaper border up in there, and would like a little coordination. I feel stuck in the whole process and don't want to be crippled entirely! I just can't see a pattern with these fabrics... I sure would appreciate any ideas, even adding another color perhaps.

How about a simple rectangle with the fish, bordered with one of the other fabrics? You could add a dash of color with piping or a flange in red or yellow. You need something with a large block to see the pretty fish print!

Thanks, your question so early in the morning is waking up my brain! I started playing with your fabrics (I think I got all three correct) and rearranging them into different (very simple) patterns. I don't know if I like my end result but it might spark your creative juices. Good luck!

That pattern you made up is great!
what about a disapearing 9 patch design?

QBeth 01-07-2010 04:17 AM

The disappearing 9-patch has been mentioned many times on the site but I've never made one and can't quite get my head around it. But, just from the name, it sounds like something that would work. Be sure to post the result!

Thanks for that, QBeth! I had thought of something similar, but being a beginner am scared to start! I'll have to get my graph paper out and play.

Caffeine, I need caffeine!! Thanks for the explanation; very clear. I kept wondering where the 9-patch concept came into play. Guess that's why they call it disappearing; i.e., you can't see it in the finished product, per se.

Where is that caffeine?!!

If I had the $$, I'd buy that EQS (whatever its called) program that allows you to design on the computer. The suggestion I sent earlier was done using MsPowerPoint and a screen snap utility. But, not everyone has these on their computer. Lucky me, I have it here at work.

QBeth, I love your concept!
