I did it! First quilt top finished! And I Love It!

I finally found sometime to sew and I was determined to complete this quilt top. I just finsihed moments ago. First thing you have to do it post it on here Right! I really like how it turned out. Of course there are more than a few newbie boo boos, but who's counting.
I am giving it to my niece for college. I am thinking about sending it out to be quilted, I have never quilted anything other than a QAYG strip baby quilt and table topper. Since this is a gift, I want it to look nice. I would try it I think if it was for me. It is twin size, I have no idea how much it will cost to be quilted, never priced it before in my area. Although if you have any ideas of a simple way to quilt this please share, I might be brave enough to try if it is not too hard.
Thanks for looking and any advice is appreciated.

Beautiful, great Job

You could do a diagonal cross hatch type of quilting. Fairly easy to do even on small machines with a walking foot.

i love the colors of your quilt. great job. thanks for posting your gem.

raynhamquilter 07-08-2012 11:14 AM

This looks fabulous! How many different fabrics did you use? Love it!

Pat625 07-08-2012 11:23 AM

Love it!! I would outline quilt it...or you can stitch in ditch. I don't know much about sending it out to quilt, because I hand quilt everything I do, because of the price.

You did a fabulous job! Love the colors!!!

Great quilt, love the colors. I send my quilts to charismah on QB. She will give you an estimate. I think this one would be great to machine quilt yourself. I would do the squares 1/4" away from the seam. It would make the center square pop.

Thanks y'all. Raynhamquilter, I used 11 fabrics counting the sashing.
I am practicing on a quilt sandwich right now, not feeling very confident about quilting it yet. I just talked to a lady who does machine quilting and she said she can do it for approximately $50.00 to $75.00 depending on the pattern I choose. I really would like to do it myself, but I have never quilted one, nor do I know how to baste a quilt for quilting. I have read on here about how to do it, but when it omes to doing it, nope never done it and not sure where to start. So for that price I think I will let her do it. I will do the next one. Unless I gain a lot of confidence this afternoon. I sure don't want to mess this quilt up.

Beautiful quilt. I would stitch in a ditch.

Great job! It's an awesome feeling when you finish that very first one!

mommasewslove 07-08-2012 01:20 PM

Its a beautiful quilt, great colors!!!!! Maybe a huge stippling pattern would be nice, stitch in the ditch is good, stippling is just prettier to me. I dont have alot of experience myself, Ive done both on a quilt with blocks too.

nativetexan 07-08-2012 01:44 PM

it's a great quilt!! love your colors too.

Threadbanger 07-08-2012 01:51 PM

Great job! I'm not confident enough to quilt my own stuff either. I send it out so it's easier on my nerves!

Jo C 07-08-2012 01:59 PM

Lovely! I'm making a string quilt right now with the very same fabrics. I love them! Congratulations!

Your quilt is beautiful ~ you did a great job on it! Good luck with getting it quilted - whether you decide to have it done or give it a try yourself!

Great colors. Sometimes I think simple patterns are more beautiful than complex ones given color choices. Congratulations on finishing your first of many!

jaspersu 07-08-2012 04:53 PM

Congrats! I am trying to teach myself machine quilting on my own, I would say if you want to quilt yours yourself, practice on something else first!

Farm Quilter 07-08-2012 05:16 PM

Lovely quilt! Lucky niece!!! You did a super job choosing colors and putting it together. The quilting bug is a wonderful bug to catch...just expensive <G>

tezell0801 07-08-2012 05:23 PM

Thanks for all of the sweet comments. I will try quilting the next one myself, but since school starts 2nd week of August, I am not putting that stress on myself. Too much going on right now to be worrying about it. I have some more practicing to do first. I will begin another one soon I hope, and I hope there are plenty more quilts for me to quilt in my future. Yes, I have been bitten by the bug ... one quilt pieced and already a closet full of fabric! Another expensive hobby, but the rewards are awesome.
