I agree with Chele. I like how you framed each block before sashing. That is one cheerful quilt. You must feel so proud. I'm sure that was a lot of work. Good job Izy! :)

Butterflyspain 05-05-2008 12:30 PM

Hi Izy, Well done.......so when did you sleep????? Just messin you know me, really love it, the colours are so vibrant, a lot like Spain.

Izy 05-05-2008 01:10 PM

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments...you are so encouraging!!

The blocks are 6" with the coloured border, this is only my second pieced top and I can tell you it gave me some grief trying to match up all those squares....alot of them are wonky even though every one was squared up with a 6" template before I added those coloured borders...well all in all I am pleased with the overall effect and I am sure when it is quilted your 'eye' wont be drawn along the lines so much...well I hope so

I have pinned and microtacked it this evening, and decided on a lovely soft fine fleece for the backing, so tomorrow at the guild day, I can get on with the quilting!! :D

nanabirdmo 05-05-2008 01:25 PM

That's fantastic. Can I make one just like you! The colors are striking and I love the colorful little strip border around each block.

barnbum 05-05-2008 02:18 PM

I had to peek at it again--it's so artsy. I looked at the directions before and couldn't quite wrap my head around how to go about it. You make me want to try harder.

zyxquilts 05-05-2008 02:51 PM

stay-at-home 05-05-2008 06:48 PM

first time i've heard the term "crumb" - just another name for scraps?? or is there more to it than that??

Yvonne 05-05-2008 07:18 PM

Your quilt is wonderful! Nice and bright and cheery! I love it!

I'm finishing up a scrappy-strippy quilt top this week (maybe) and I think a crumb top maybe my next go round with the scrap basket.

Have you noticed that when dealing with the scrap basket the scraps seem to multiply? (Like wire hangers in a dark closet?) I am telling myself it's only because I'm fluffing them up but there really does seem to be more than when I started! Argh!

Barb M 05-05-2008 07:30 PM

Ooooooh, gorgeous!!!!! :)

Barnbum - You and a couple of other ladies have expressed interest in how to make these blocks, would you like me to make a photographic tutorial so you can see step by step, if so just let me know, and I will make one up :D

Cathy M 05-06-2008 08:12 AM

tia sarah 05-07-2008 08:04 AM

oooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh love it love it, it's beautiful.

Izy 05-07-2008 09:00 AM

I layered the quilt up yesterday, and used a lovely soft fleece for the backing, so with great gusto, got started on some free motion meandering....WHAT A DISASTER!! Its just too thick and heavy to move around enough, so just spent 2 hours unpicking...not easy on fleece either :(

So what to do now....??? any suggestions, I fancied doing something different rather that doing in the ditch ... :?
