My MIL made all 9 of her grandkids quilt tops several (like 9 or 10) years ago & had them draw numbers for which one they would get. Six years later she had finished 1 (she ties them) & was going in order of age, so seeing as my kids are the youngest I offered to finish theirs for her or they would probably never get them! I wanted to finish at least one before I saw her this summer because she always asks me about them (even though 10 years later she has still finished just one!) I can relate though, the sandwiching is my least favorite part of quilting & must be hers too! So here is our joint effort, her top & my quilting. I had fun practicing my FMQ on it & had never done FMQ on such a big one-it's a queen.

Looks good -- and having both of you work on the quilts makes them even more special. I wonder if DD and DIL would like to finish some of mine LOL

starshine 06-09-2011 03:24 PM

Nice quilt. Nice solution to a potential problem, or disappointment.

dinlauren 06-09-2011 03:45 PM

Nice work...maybe you and your mom can work together to finish the others and get them off the bucket list.

TacoMama 06-09-2011 03:47 PM

Awesome, both of you did a wonderful job.

I would also like to know how you did the stars. It looks like you did one, then curlyqued to the next start. I have 2 to do for my granddaughters and this would be a great pattern to use.

Yes isnthatodd that is how i did them. i started at the top of a star then ended at the top then did a loop de loop to the top of the next star. I free handed them so they are all slightly different & I definately got better as I went along!

SueDor 06-09-2011 05:56 PM

just perfect...loved it

mama's place 06-10-2011 04:22 AM

Love it. Have to do one like that myself!!

I am learning that I love the old quilts and patterns more than the modern ones...just me. The simple patterns just show up better to me. They're also easier for me to sew as my sewing isn't up to the quality that some of you have achieved.

laalaaquilter 06-10-2011 04:41 AM

Love the pattern and her execution! And your FMQ stars! I know how hard they are when you are just starting! (like me)

Yooper32 06-10-2011 04:41 AM

Ohhh, that just looks like one of those quilts you want to cuddle up in. Nice job for both of you.

Victoria L 06-10-2011 05:35 AM

Lovely joint effort :)

lisalovesquilting 06-10-2011 05:37 AM

Pretty quilt. And your quilting looks great.

JoyjoyMarie 06-10-2011 06:28 AM

It looks terrific, and you did well to jump in and help! We slow ones often bite off more than we can chew!!

mimee4 06-10-2011 07:40 AM

I especially like the decorative stitching you did on the blue. I just tried that myself on a Quilt for Kids. It was easy and looks nice. Great job on the stars, too.

MomtoBostonTerriers 06-10-2011 07:54 AM

Maggiemay,

As all quilters know, you did the HARD part on this quilt. What a fabulous team you and MIL make. Your quilting is lovely -- I think you should volunteer to quilt all of the other tops for those grandchildren. :-) I'm sure MIL was happy that you took over some of those tops, so she no longer feels guilty about not finishing them. You should be VERY pleased with the results. I'm impressed.

grannypat7925 06-10-2011 07:55 AM

You did a good job!

BizzieLizzie 06-10-2011 08:15 AM

Scrumptious! Love it and the quilting is great!
