This past week I made this quilt for my nephew, he wanted one like my mom used to make in the 60s. It just looked so bright that I couldn't send it to him, I didn't like it. This morning I dyed it with Tan Rit Dye in my washing machine. Now it is toned down and I like it better, I hope he does too.

Quilt like Mom made (but dyed)

quiltgrammyt2 03-07-2011 05:54 PM

Very nice

Ann L 03-07-2011 05:58 PM

you did a great job of "antiquing" the quilt. Good idea.

hperttula123 03-07-2011 06:07 PM

What a great idea!!! Glad it worked! I would have never thought of dying a quilt.

pattypurple 03-07-2011 06:12 PM

Don't think I would have ever thought of dyeing a whole quilt. Good job.

Looks like a tea dye..softens very nicely. Great looking quilt. You did a super job!

cherylynne 03-07-2011 06:27 PM

earthwalker 03-07-2011 06:51 PM

Looks lovely...I love brights but this looks great. I have never thought of dyeing a whole quilt, but you've proved it can be done with excellent results.

oatw13 03-07-2011 06:53 PM

It looks great. I would not have thought of using dye. I have used a light bleach bath to tone down fabrics in the past. I think I will remember the dye for next time.

cowpie2 03-07-2011 06:55 PM

What a great idea. I actually have a quilt with more white than I care for. I know it won't stay crisp white looking for long. The tan die might be perfect.

FranC 03-07-2011 07:02 PM

Perfect, looks great

You are a brave women. I never ... would have attempted this.
The results are really nice. Again my hats off on the shear bravery of this.

BevF 03-07-2011 07:20 PM

Even though a before picture would have been nice, I really hope he like this one too because it looks like an antique. Great job. (I would have been nervous dying a quilt.)

jajudd24 03-07-2011 07:26 PM

Good job..would have like to see before / after

Lakeview Quilting 03-07-2011 07:27 PM

Pretty quilt!

BETTY62 03-07-2011 07:58 PM

Very nice quilt. It has that antique look.

caliquocat 03-07-2011 08:39 PM

There's always a way to "fix" it, glad you like it. I've tea dyed fabric before but certainly not a whole quilt, you were brave.

LETIA 03-07-2011 09:00 PM
