I feel like I won the lottery.

I answered an ad on Craigslist last week and finally made it to the guys house. He had so much stuff that he had inherited from his sister. He has a couple of embroidery machines that were way above what I could afford, but even so, such a great deal for someone. I went there mostly to see the fabric, and was not disappointed. I have not measured it all yet. My husband counted at least 40 decent sized pieces, two yards and up. And then there was three small bins of small pieces. fat quarters mostly, but some were less or more. There was also a whole bunch of batiks, mostly small squares but a few half or quarter yard pieces. And then a bunch of other pieces I have no idea how to categorize. Also got a big cutting board, 36x24 and an amazing box of tools. In the tools box there was seven rotary cutters and bag full of blades. I think there are eleven, although not sure they are all new. There are six bias tape machine tips. And three things that I thought were just mini irons, and one is just that, but two are that, I think and more. One is called a textile tool and has several tips. The other is a magic Rhinestone setter and mini iron. How fun is that? Now I can bling up everything.

Ok, hopefully the pictures are resized correctly and will post. And please ignore my messy sewing room. Just having too much fun.

Wow! I agree! Even better than the lottery!

ssgirly 07-07-2012 04:19 PM

That's so awesome. I've been thinking about checking out the craigslist scene, but i'm nervous about it. It seems like most of what people end up having is garbage...

bstock 07-07-2012 04:21 PM

What a great score!!!!

ssgirly 07-07-2012 04:21 PM

if you dont mind me asking, how did you find this guy... did you use a specific search term in craigslist?

Katia 07-07-2012 04:30 PM

I check Craigslist nearly every day with two search words. Sewing and Quilting. Not that I need anything, but I am always on the prowl for some great bargain. The guy was disabled and seemed very lonely. The first call I made, I could not get him off the phone. His phone finally died. So I decided I had to bring my husband. I believe the guy was harmless, but I think that it is always a good idea to not go alone. The guy was also overwhelmed with all the stuff his sister had. But he did know that it was worth something. She had taken the Jenny Haskins courses and got herself certified to teach. I don't think she did it much before she passed though. But she basically talked her brother into buying her everything that Jenny Haskins had to offer. I could not believe the boxes of thread and stabilizers and all that sort of thing. I kinda think that she planned to open a business. very sad actually. But I am serious, I could have easily spent 15,000 bucks there. He had that much stuff. I think I got off easy and with a great bargain. I spent 150 bucks. More then I should have, but what is a gal to do?

Tweety2911 07-07-2012 04:41 PM

You scored some really beautiful fabrics! Hooray for you!

sew_Tracy 07-07-2012 04:43 PM

Oh my gosh! What a find! Our craigslists likes to list velvet Elvis paint-by-number paintings and other crappy stuff called "arts and crafts." Lucky you!

Katia 07-07-2012 04:51 PM

Now the big question is what to do with all of it. The bottom half of the stack on the left side in the fourth picture is all Asian prints. The rest has a lot of jewel tones and I have no idea what to call it, but it was all pretty. Most pieces are at least two yards. I really really love the top one on the middle stack. I have literally lusted over those in the quilt shops since I started. A couple are Michael Miller and one is RJR. But what can you do with that sort of Monet type floral? I tried to look some of it up online, but most of it is discontinued, so not a lot of info out there. I was hoping to find some quilt examples.

Diane007 07-07-2012 04:58 PM

Yes you did win the lottery bonus

AUQuilter 07-07-2012 05:08 PM

What a great find! Check out Jinny Beyer quilts at RJR as she does a lot in jewel tones. Here's a free Pat Speth pattern that uses florals. http://www.patspeth.com/documents/lady-of-the-lake.pdf

The fossil ferns were a wonderful buy. Enjoy your new additions.

needles3thread 07-07-2012 05:29 PM

Looks like you got some very nice fabrics..........glad for you.

Barbm 07-07-2012 05:37 PM

You did fantastic!!! Lots of awesome fabrics there!

(I should call my daughter- she is in the Las Vegas area- is that near you?)

Katia 07-07-2012 05:57 PM

Yes, well, I live over the hill, but the ad is in the Las Vegas Craigslist. I think I got most of the really good fabric. Actually there was a lot left. The other stuff would be a wonderful deal if she is interested. Although he does know what things are worth and was not selling the machines or embroidery stuff for very cheap. I told him to sell some on Ebay, but he said he didn't know how. And be forewarned, he is a talker. Dh and I had a plan and we were still there about an hour later then we had hoped. But I just had to be nice.

CraftyCricket 07-07-2012 06:00 PM

Looks like you hit the jackpot!

Tartan 07-07-2012 06:02 PM

CHA-Ching! You hit the jackpot! Great fabrics and I see a couple of great border prints in the bunch. Won't those look awesome as table runners or card trick blocks where you can play with the angles? Have fun playing with your new treasures.

Jingle 07-07-2012 06:10 PM

A good deal for you. He sounds very lonely, good of you and DH to spend some time with him. You both may be rewarded someday for that kindmess.

joejoe31 07-07-2012 06:18 PM

suebee 07-07-2012 06:46 PM

Moonglow 07-07-2012 07:41 PM

Wow! That's better than the lottery. You have some beautiful fabrics there. Sounds like the seller is lonely so it was good of you to spend some time with him. Anyway enjoy your new stash. Happy quilting.

May I be nosy and ask how much? No, never mind. I don't even want to know. Fantastic find!

I bought a next to new simple Singer for $35 the other day on our Craigslist. There's a mini-Singer for $30 but I don't know if I need it.

beatys9 07-07-2012 11:26 PM

Lottery indeed! Where in Nevada? I'll be in Southern Nv in a little over a week...

cleodaisy 07-08-2012 09:09 AM

You really made out like a bandit. The fabrics look like quilt store fabrics.
