I am so happy to have this top finished and ready to quilt. I am pleased with the way it turned out. I used Autumn Journey fabrics from Kansas Troubles Quilters.

I put a 1" border around each block (in either red, blue or green) then I did a 1" sashing between the blocks. Next was a 1" tan border, a 1" navy border, a 4" tan and navy border, and a 6" navy border. It ended up being 68" X 83". I am going to quilt it myself on my Bernina, but I have 2 other quilts I need to finish before I will have a chance to quilt this one.

This BOM was really fun!!!

It came together great. Your color choices really go with the pioneer theme.

Very, very nice. I love the use of the borders. It's where I always have my doubts about what to do and what size to make them. It represents the pioneer theme perfectly.

I really like the muted colours here and the multiple 1" boarders are very effective. Beautifull!

oh I just love quilts like these. I love civil war fabrics.

Marcia 02-03-2010 06:34 AM

Thanks everyone for the kind words. The quilt really looks faded out in the pic--the colors are much more vibrant in person.

Kara 02-03-2010 06:35 AM

The colors in this are GREAT! I love the visual "feel" of this quilt. It almost welcomes you home.

Harmony 02-03-2010 06:37 AM

Beautiful colors. Nice job.

k3n 02-04-2010 07:50 AM

Marcia that is beautiful! I wanted to put a navy sashing between mine but was worried that it would 'seep' into some of the navy in the blocks. I'm going to borrow your framing idea - hope you don't mind! :-D

Adele516 02-04-2010 08:44 AM

Hi Marcia,

WOW!! This is one of the prettiest quilts of this BOM I've seen so far! :D Must be the Kansas Troubles fabrics, and of course your excellent workmanship.

May I ask what your ideas are for quilting it? I've kinda been stumped with how to best quilt samplers. Do you treat each block individually, or do you do an all over design? I'm working on a sampler that has 22 blocks, two of eleven different blocks, so was wondering how you get your inspiration. :?:

Again, awesome job!!

GailG 02-04-2010 08:15 PM

Fabulous quilt. Awesome work! Love the fabrics.

K--that was my problem too-finding one color fabric for my sashing that would work with every block. It just wasn't happening! I think it is a common problem with a sampler quilt. Of course you can borrow my "framing idea"--I am flattered that you like it. :)

That is absolutely beautiful. What great fabrics. I love that quilt. All my favorite colors.
