You Go Girl!!! The butterflies are the perfect touch!!! :D :D I can't wait to see it when you get the borders on!!

Sorry about the quilt inspector - how are the kids? You have kids, right?

Yep, we have four kids. They're ok, it's been hubby and I that have been a mess. :?
I think the kids are kind of used to me bringing home animals that are only going to have short lives, or need extra care, they're a little more "cie la vie" than I am. I fight tooth and nail against mother nature, determined not to let her win. She always does though.

BlueChicken 07-31-2009 02:20 PM

I am thinking I may put a simple flower with a couple of green leaves in the bottom corner of the border, and a few more butterflys, to finish it off.

I'd best go get dressed and get some housework done first! :-)

Janstar 07-31-2009 06:46 PM

Good thinking Blue! Love the butterfly idea! Just the right amount of color. You sure are speedy!!

littlehud 07-31-2009 06:52 PM

I never would have thought of that, but it is awesome. What a great idea.

Got the outside sashing on, but now I'm stuck..... no idea what to do for the border.

I'm thinking thin solid black strip, then....... ??

Last try... this better be the right way up!!

Ooooooooooooooh- I really like the butterflies. Perfect dashes of color. I like the idea of continuing the sashes into the border and adding a final dash of black on the outside - and a few splashes of flowers - like you're talking about in the bottom corner - butterflies LOVE some flowers. Is it K3 who is our Floral guru? Someone is bound to have a few flower suggestions.

Blue - you've taken the pressure off all the rest of us - now no one has to hurry to be the first one to finish a quilt from the black and white blocks      We didn't even hae time to catch our breath

JoanneS 07-31-2009 07:33 PM

'Slow down, you move too fast, got to make the moooooment last! Whistle down the avenue - - -"

Can't remember more at the moment, but it expresses my thoughts!

LOL
It's been a while since I've had such a clear picture of what I want in my head, I couldn't risk mucking around and having it disappear! ;-)

I have no more black and white fabric, I'll have to go get some. But I'm thinking nothing too busy, and a very simple flower / plant design, strong lines nothing dainty. ??

Ducky 07-31-2009 07:38 PM

OMG! How did I miss this thread? Wow, Blue! Talk about creative! I totally love what you did.

pittsburgpam 07-31-2009 08:38 PM

That is wonderful, Blue. I love the movement and color of the butterflies.

SulaBug 07-31-2009 10:44 PM

Blue,
You have come up with the greatest
of idea's. The butterflys just add the
perfect touch. Now you have me
wondering, how I can jazz mine up as
well!! Great work!! Thanks for sharing.
:D :D :D :D :D :D

BlueChicken 07-31-2009 10:49 PM

My next project was supposed to be a case to hold my hand sewing stuff, thimble, needles, cotton, etc, out of the fabric you sent with my doll quilt sulabug. :-)

earthwalker 07-31-2009 10:52 PM

Blue, Fabulous idea, great execution and as for your energy levels.....truly magnificent.

Sorry for the loss of your "quilt inspector"... I am sure this quilt would get many pawprints of approval.

Blue,
You can always make a case out of the fabric I sent, later if necessary. I am so thrilled to hear that you will be using it. I am still reading my magazines that you sent & love them dearly!! Thank you again!!

What about if you finished off with a small border of the black/gray that you have between the blocks, then maybe a black border after that with some butterflies on it. I think that'd be cute!

That sounds like a good plan!

Would a simple vine appliqued be too much in a black border? Maybe just in the bottom and left corner borders. Or in opposite corners maybe.

I really like the idea of applique in opposite corners. awesome.
Blue, glad to hear that losing wee kitty, sent you in a very positive creative coping mode. A fine tribute. After all, she is playing in the sunshine, with the butterflies now.

WOW! The butterflies were a terrific inspiration! How about a solid black border and then a beautiful multi-color stripe cut on the bias for the border?
Sorry about the quilt inspector.......My condolences!

crkathleen 08-01-2009 01:04 PM

I love it!!!

Now that's a possibility.... a colourful stripe, I have some fabric hidden away somewhere for another project. Wonder if I can pinch some.

Quiltntime 08-01-2009 02:47 PM

WOW! Now that's inspiration! Beautiful!

Sheree from Chicago 08-03-2009 12:00 PM

Totally awesome and the thing that makes it so is your colorful butterflies. It would just be ho-hum without them. Great idea! Don't you just love it when you have enough quiet time to be creative? Then the ideas flow and the adrenalin starts pumping. Love it. Thanks for sharing. You inspire me!

Iluv2quilt 08-03-2009 06:35 PM

This is a fantastic quilt, I love the color on top of the black and white!

k3n 08-03-2009 11:30 PM

Wow Blue! The B&W blocks are stunning but the butterflies turn the whole thing into a WORK OF ART!!!! :D I think a wide black border with some vine applique and flowers in the same jewel tones with butterflies flitting in and out of them would be beautiful but you've got the 'eye' girl - whatever you decide will be fab! :D

Flattery will get you anything! lol :-)

I've gone back to the idea of a plant / vine in opposite corners. I like the idea of colourful striped fabric too, but the vine keeps sticking in my mind. Off to the lqs tomorrow to get some black and white for the outside border.

Sweet... send me a plane ticket so I can hand deliver it... can't trust the blimmen posties. ;-)

Vickymomof6 08-04-2009 02:08 AM

I love the bit of color the butterflies add. It is lovely.

Wow, that is such a beautiful quilt! :) I've been out of town and just saw this. You really added punch to those beautiful blocks. I can't wait to see the finished product.

I am so sorry to hear about your little qult inspector. These things hit me hard, too. It sounds like you needed the quilt therapy!

bonitagaye 08-06-2009 08:58 AM

Truely inspired! I love it!

quiltykiwi 08-06-2009 12:55 PM

Hey Blue Chicken....... Great thinking !! Love the lift that the butterflies make , Can understand why you needed something to lift. as the B/W becomes a tad bland and uninteresting eh? Didn't thank that would happen . :D

alaskasunshine 08-06-2009 01:04 PM

I love the butterflies you added, I am glad you got hit over your head and thrown into your quilting room to add those butterflies. They look loke they flew right onto your blocks...simply wonderful!
