My black and white swap blocks arrived in the mail the day before yesterday. They're awesome!
I have to admit though, I laid them all out on the table and no inspiration hit, no master plan lept into my head, I was worried! Black and white is not really my thing, but I thought that when they were laid out something would come to me. It just wasn't happening though. So while I had dinner I sat at the computer and googled "black and white quilt images". I was scrolling through with nothing really jumping out and grabbing me, when halfway down the page amongst all the black and white quilts I came across a bright purple bird of paradise picture, with beads and all sorts of embellishments. I'm sitting there thinking "that's gorgeous but what on earth is it doing in my search results"...... And inspiration lept off the screen and whacked me over the head! I raced into my sewing room, and three hours later...... |
I still need to add the outside sashing, and decide on a border, but you get the idea! :-)
Lately my time in my sewing room has been peaceful... quiet.... no rushing.... just very calm. But tonight there's fabric flying, bits all over the place, drawers left open, cabinets hanging open, and I'm just about running in place I'm moving so fast. I love that feeling, when you know exactly what you want to do and how it's going to go. It's awesome. :-) |
WOW!!
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!! |
Thanks :-)
I'm loving it too. No idea what I'll do for the border, I'd kind of like to pull a little more colour in for that, without drawing the eye too much. And don't tell anyone, but the whole thing is upside down... the cat block was supposed to be at the top, and the row with my fern at the bottom. I was in too much of a hurry! lol |
Wow!! It came out awesome!!!
|
Blue, that's FAB! Love it! You are just a whirlwind girl!
|
That turned out great.
It's very similar to what I have planned for one quilt except I'm thinking of using a thin sashing of a yellow/gold between the blocks with the butterflies flitting around. Butterflies must be in this year as I was in Walmart yesterday and they must have had four fabrics with them including the one you must have gotten. Can't wait to see the finished project! |
Oh I love what you added to it. Great job can't wait to see it done.

I think the blocks look fine the way they are!
What about if you finished off with a small border of the black/gray that you have between the blocks, then maybe a black border after that with some butterflies on it. I think that'd be cute! |
Sorry about the quilt inspector but you did do a wonderful job on this quilt I really love it.
|
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love black and whites.... my daughter says it's just not the usual me--but I think they lead to creative thinking--exactly what you just showed us!! :D :D |
Woo Wee Blue
Thats a beauty you've got yourself there. Those blocks are wonderful & the Butterflies just add that little bit more impact - don't you think ? I love, love, love, love, love it. A good job well done I say. Tisha |

Would a simple vine appliqued be too much in a black border? Maybe just in the bottom and left corner borders. Or in opposite corners maybe. |
Too cool! I love what you came up with! So original. That is great!
|
Beautiful work. Love the colorful butterflies.

Wow, when inspiration hits, you go for it, and it turns out absolutely great!
That makes your black and white top totally unique. I also collect butterfly fabric, but applique is NOT on my list of things to do yet. Did you use fusible backing, hand applique, or what? |

Very nice. I like the concept of the butterflies.

Blue - that is terrific - I love the butterflies.
Sorry about the quilt inspector - how are the kids? You have kids, right? |
The butterfly appliques would never have occurred to me. They are perfect on the quilt.
I'm so sorry your little quilt inspector died. |
So original! Just the little bit of color of the butterflies takes the quilt to a whole new level! Love it!
|

My goodness! That just really made this quilt happen!! You can bet that I'm going to keep your inspiration in the back of my mind if I ever do a black and white quilt! It's beautiful!

sooo pretty!

You are definately an inspiration for the rest of us...at least me! This is exactly why I like hanging out with quilters! And we get so excited about what is created. Thanks so much for sharing with us.
|
I love it! I've only recently been interested in black and white quilts. That little bit of color sure does make it POP! Another quilt to add to my list of projects to do someday. Thanks for sharing!
|
WOW!!! what inspiration. That is going to be one outstanding quilt. I would have never thought of Buttierfies. But I like the B&W without the Butterflies on it. I think it would be awesome just B&W when it is finished.

Love it. And I agree that the kitty went just where she wanted to be, looking up to swat at the butterflies.
