this is the quilt that my grandmother gave me 14 years ago, it was made by her mother. It was in my basement in a tote that was on the bottom of a large stack of stuff. I had to go for it and dig it out

an error

wonderful find !! Congratulations !

clem55 04-15-2011 05:45 AM

that is really pretty! So glad that you were given something like that. What a treasure. I have a quilt that my mom, grandma and great grandma all workred on, double wedding ring, and I love it. I t has been used for many years, but still in good shape. Completely handmade.

nstitchs 04-15-2011 05:47 AM

Really nice and with a lot of meaning behind it.

mimom 04-15-2011 05:49 AM

this one looks like it was pieced by machine, long armed and the binding is machine sewn to the back. All this time I have insisted on hand sewing my binding on cause thats the way my grandma's would have done it. WRONG, at least this grandma machine binded. lol

What a beautiful treasure !! :-D

Love it. The error makes it unique - 1 of a kind.

ssnare 04-15-2011 05:53 AM

Great that you found it. I always have heard that some people deliberately put an error in every quilt, that makes it extra special!!!

spartan quilter 04-15-2011 06:02 AM

I love the odd block, because that makes it so special. And what a great piece of family history to come down to you.

it didn't mean that much to me 14 years ago, but now it means so much I cant even discribe it.

I love "refinding" old treasures such as this and being able to re-examin what they mean to you now!

It's such a pretty quilt as well!

thequilteddove 04-15-2011 06:54 AM

Scrap Happy 04-15-2011 08:09 AM

It’s beautiful, what a treasure! Love the fabric. I looked at the pictures before I finished reading what you had written. When I saw the ‘error’ block my 1st thought was that she did it on purpose and I wondered why she decided to do it that way. She added mystery to her quilt. Thanks for sharing!

stichinluvr 04-15-2011 08:21 AM

Awesome. so glad you found it. The one block is not a mistake, just a variation of the block. :-D

weasier22 04-15-2011 09:02 AM

Granny Coy 04-15-2011 06:50 PM

Only factories can turn out perfect anything. Errors are what shows it truly handmade.

Treasureit 04-15-2011 06:53 PM

Great Treasure, I have heard that The Amish do that one error
to show that no one is perfect and this is what they meant to do I'm sure :-D

Ramona Byrd 04-16-2011 04:45 AM

Lovely quilt. That error looks like an old telephone.
-----------------------------------
That was my first idea too. Your GGM might have just gotten a telephone put in and wanted to brag about the event. If I, at 77, can remember when we first got electricity back on the farm, then why couldn't your GGM remember her first phone?

On the other hand, she may simply have run out of fabric for the quilt and "made do" as most did at that time.

cowgirlquilter 04-16-2011 04:46 AM

Makes my heart smile!

nabobw 04-16-2011 04:50 AM

The error looks like an old phone. Maybe it was there to say call me!!!!!
