I have the guitar strings sewn on.... so now I'm ready to finish this quilt.

First, I want to say thanks for all the encouragement you all gave me when you said .... just keep going. Some said not to worry about the strings not being perfectly straight.... after all it is a resemblance of a guitar, not a real guitar or a picture of a guitar. It's not perfect but I'm happy with it. I kept going and now I have all the guitar strings sewn on and am ready to add the strips of fabric for the finish. Many people made great suggestions. This quilt is for my great nephew.... and he plays guitar.
I did twist the metallic threads. That made it easier to couch the threads on. And, the thickest string is 12 threads. The thinnest string is 2 threads. I was afraid I was going to run out of thread. But, I had enough. I have a lot of musical fabric that I will cut into strips to stitch together to finish this. I planned on putting the guitar on one side (about 1/3 of the quilt) and then the strips for the rest. But I was thinking, if my GN wants to put the quilt on his bed, the guitar would hang on one side.... But do I want the guitar in the middle? Another decision I have to make. Design principles say 1/3 - 2/3 is the way to go. That's the problem with designing quilts on your own. There are a lot of decisions to make. So, thanks again. I'll post the finished quilt when I'm done...... hopefully before too long. |
Wow - that looks terrific!

Glad you went ahead and did this; it looks fine!

Wow; this turned out great! The strings even have the same kind of spirally-pattern that real strings have. Wonderful job!
looking good, it will be nice to see it finished
I'm so glad you decided to put the strings on -- your quilt looks really nice. He will absolutely love it!

Wow, it is perfect. I love it. I would put it in the middle or on a diagonal in the middle. GN will love it and will want to use it on his bed, AND be able to see the whole thing. I think you have done a really good job. Barny

I'm with Barny. It should either be in the middle or diagonal. No boy cares what design principles say. He will only care that his friends can see his super cool guitar quilt when they walk in the room.

How special for him.
See? It's fantastic!
Yes! The strings are great. You have done a great job. I'm sure he will remember it forever.
Love your metallic strings! I agree, in the middle at an angle. Can't wait to see it finished!
Looks real...great job!
Fantastic job!
The strings look great! Glad you persevered!
Excellent work. I've made 3 quilts showing guitarists at work, so I know this is far from trivial.
Now, aren't you glad you continued with it? Looks good.
It is coming along great!
Looking great!!!
Great job. So glad you continued with the stings and it looks perfect. He is going to be over the moon.
The guitar turned out great! Good job, keep posting pictures as you make your decisions.
That guitar is just so great. Glad you hung with the strings ....He is going to love this.
I'll put my un-requested 2 cents in and say that if i were doing it, i would put the guitar in the center of the quilt.... but definitely at an angle...not straight up and down or side to side. |
The guitar came out spectacular!! If you didn't want to center the guitar, would the placement of the bed in the room allow for the guitar to be centered in the bottom 1/3 of the quilt? If so I think it would look great near the foot of the bed or part of it slightly hanging off the foot of the bed.
that turned out fantastic!!
Thanks to sharing, look great.
Really nice job on the strings. Love the metallic thread. Great idea.
I'm glad you continued. This looks great! Can't wait to see the finale!!

I had my doubts when I saw your other post but you proved me wrong - it looks awesome!! :)
That came out awesome!!! So glad you continued with the strings. It looks real enough to play!
Great job, whoever it is intended for will love it.
This is great! You're doing a fantastic job, he should love it tremendously.
Beautiful. You should put it in the middle so that the guitar can be seen on top of the bed.
Bravo! You did a wonderful job on this. The strings are as perfect as they should be. Overall your work is very, very well done. Congratulations and thanks very much for showing the finished product. He will love it!

First time I've read anything about your guitar - It's fabulous!! Your nephew is going to be thrilled - expecially since it's going on his bed at college. My grandson would go bonkers over that quilt. I'd put it in the center of the bed at an angle.
