We spend our summers in WA, we have a small mobile home and sewing can be a challenge. I didn't even set up my stuff until 2 weeks before we were leaving last year because I didn't know where to put everything.

So, here's my old setup and here's my new setup. This is a Sauder sewing cabinet, I ordered it online through Walmart, I got it for $119 but it goes on sale for $99 frequently and the shipping is free to the Walmart nearest you. It's really sturdy and the shelves can hold up to 25 lbs.

I set up in front of one of the recliners but DH said no problem, we have another recliner, an overstuff chair, and a couch so he's comfortably covered no matter what!

Old setup

Old setup, poor DH had to relocated all the stuff on the couch to take a nap!

New setup with everything out and ready to go

When done, the sewing machine goes on the shelf

A place for everything!!

Close it Up!

Put It Away!

Found it on the Sauder website, but also found that Walmart carried it so ordered through them.

What a great cabinet! I've not seen that before. If I had a place, I'd sure get one. I know you are enjoying it!

beaniekins 08-11-2011 02:49 PM

That's awesome! I dream of the day when the basement renovations are done and I don't have to clear my sewing stuff of the dining table at dinner time anymore.

Phannie1 08-11-2011 02:49 PM

What a nice piece to have. You said Walmart?

nyelphaba 08-11-2011 02:50 PM

I have the same cabinet from Walmart. I've been using it for about seven years and it still looks brand new like yours. Where you put your sewing machine underneath, I keep plastic containers with my thread in them. Enjoy.

Great idea!!

It looks very nice. How tall is in where you set your machine when sewing? I wonder if a handy DH could cut a well for your machine to sit in? Or a DW (sorry, didn't mean to offend anyone  ).

How nice to get to come to Washington to spend your summers! :-D

I don't really need a well for the machine to sit in, I actually have an oversized acrylic table for the machine but I brought up the small table instead this year. I only do small projects here and even the small table has been more than adequate for my fmq. However.......I have a table at my other place and I've asked DH to cut a well in that one so we'll see how it goes! He's pretty handy!

Ditto ... a few of us mentioned we have the same cabinet when someone else pictured hers recently. I'm quite happy with it, have had it about 5 years or so now.

On the bottom "foot" shelf I keep my threat totes. I keep all my thread in clear plastic tackle box totes. My machine stays put on the top.
