And it left a trail!!

This is my new "Going Green" quilt that will be a queen size before it is over with I think. I will know more after I have put some more of these blocks together.

This will be one that I will sell when my GD and I do the bazaar in a few months. This quilt was made from some king size flat sheets I picked up at the thrift store for like $2.50 for the pair. I need to go grab some thread tomorrow because I am going to run out of the color I am using to piece it up with but I should have no more than $8 to $10 in this quilt after I finish it.

But here is one of the blocks and it was sewn on my 1948 Universal 15 that is in my studios treadle.

I love this quilt pattern. I got a block like this in fall colors in a swap and keep thinking I will do a scrappy one since I won't be able to get more or even enough of that same fabric. Can't wait to see pictures. Can't wait to get to mine one day. It's on the list.

Lostn51 04-14-2010 09:06 PM

I love the block also, it is going to be hard to let this one go but I will. The block measures 12.5 x 12.5 and I squared each time I added to make a bigger size. This is not the simplest block to do but the finished product will be fabulous!!

Love the hot pink!

Deecee 04-15-2010 12:22 AM

Wow, love the hot pink. Can't wait to see finished pics.

Billy, that is going to be gorgeous. Has your GD ever talked you out of a quilt? This might be the one she wants really bad Grandpa! Bet you couldn't say NO, could you?

sewcrafty 04-15-2010 02:45 AM

Very nice!!!

Lori B. 04-15-2010 03:28 AM

Very Nice! Can't wait to see more progress on this one. :)

Pam 04-15-2010 03:45 AM

This was one of the first patterns I made and it lives on the back of the recliner, gets used all through the cooler months. I wish I had not run the pattern all of the way out to the edges, the design just twirls off the quilt. If I were to make another I would do the outer trails all in the same color to contain the design.

Quilt4u 04-15-2010 03:50 AM

Love it.

LovingIzabella 04-15-2010 04:03 AM

This is one of my favorite quilt blocks!! Great job on it-it will be fabulous when done!

Hi Billy,
Does a green quilt just mean that you are recycling old sheets? I am just curious.....I was wondering when you were first talking about going green if it meant a special cotton or something??
beautiful quilt...I know it will sell.

Lostn51 04-15-2010 06:50 AM

Yes I am recycling lightly used sheets, blankets and cotton dress shirts. The blankets are being used as the batting and they are of course sewn on a treadle so no carbon foot print there.

Of course everything has been been washed before I start on it but then it will be washed again to get the tons of starch I use off of it.

Looks great Billy! Snail Trail is also on my list of "one of these days"! I can't tell you how many times/different ways I've drafted the pattern.
I'll be looking forward to seeing the finished top.

dglvr 04-15-2010 07:20 AM

Can't wait to see it finished. I bought some flannel sheets at a yard sale that I'm using for wallhanger and tablerunner batting.
Works great.

Kara 04-15-2010 07:33 AM

I love this block, too. And the secondary patterns you can create are wonderful.
I've been playing around with the idea of one lately, but I really should cross some projects off the list (containing 13 projects) before I add more...

Can't wait to see progress and finished quilt!
Great job!! :)

Ducky 04-15-2010 07:52 AM

Looks great, Billy. Will you show us a picture when you're finished with it?

dunster 04-15-2010 08:09 AM

There are snail's trail blocks in my avatar. I decided to paper piece them, because it's a hard block to get right. Congratulations to you for mastering it.

I dont know about mastering it, that was the first the first block I made and I already spent 4 hours ironing and cutting all of the material for the whole quilt.

I know I am a perfectionist but I think there was more luck involved than anything.

Yes I will I am really stoked with doing this quilt, but I am having to work around these cars I am working on so it will be an off and on kinda thing.

Here is what I have been able to do today while I was blowing some steam off from the pair of Deuces. I was able to cut the strips I sewn last night and made my 4 patch blocks and squared them up.

I might get back out there or I might not depends on how I feel a little later on.

Now for the Assembly

Actually is a rose color but my camera didnt pick the colors up right. Must be because of the gold light coming through the window.

Or are you talking about the curtains? Yes they are a pink, orange, and purple that goes with my "Paprika" colored walls.

cute block

lakelily 04-17-2010 10:14 AM

when i counted the light pieces in the whole quilt, it's 10 in a block but when I counted the pieces in the block there was only 8

That because there are two different size blocks involved. Mine are 12" and the ones for the finished photo are 14" I believe.

I was even thinking about just keep on adding to the one block and making it 48" x 48" and using it for the center panel then put a 2" border around it then build the outer border in 12" blocks put together.

Kinda a quilt within a quilt.
