So, I got a $50.00 certificate from my LQS for buying so much   . The owner had this bundle of 17 FQ's that was luscious, all teal and chocolate. She was making a woven ribbons quilt, and challenged me to make one with her. I KNEW better. I just don't do scrappy/unorganized. But, the 17 FQ Bundle and the pattern cost me just $1.96! :P :P

I knew while I was sewing the blocks that I wouldn't like the finished quilt, but I persevered. So I had all the blocks made and arranged so that no two fabrics adjoined (which was a chore, I'll tell you). While I was sewing the first row, my dear mother came in and rearranged the blocks. I was so disgusted I just started sewing blocks together at random. I really, really don't like this, but I'll use it to practice my FMQ on, so it won't be a total loss.

I did decide I liked the pattern, and made a coordinated quilt, which I'll post on another thread. The pattern is really easy, and this one went together in just a couple of hours.

I'm with you, I don't like scrappy either!

janRN 05-12-2010 08:56 AM

I'm laughing-not at you but with you. I can't for the life of me do scrappy. I have to plan everything out and "over think" the color placement. I saw someone make blocks by pulling random fabrics out of a paper bag and sewing them together. OMG-I'd probably have a stroke if I tried that!!
I love your quilt though-it went together really well and I don't think it looks too scrappy. You did good!

Jim's Gem 05-12-2010 08:56 AM

I like it!!! I love making quilts with lots of fabrics!!! I think it looks great!!!

You know, this world would be awfully boring if we all like the same things!! Good thing God made us all different with different likes and ideas!!!!

kwhite 05-12-2010 08:58 AM

Sorry Gai I still like it.

BKinCO 05-12-2010 08:59 AM

I can relate, but I really do think your quilt is beautiful! I love the fabrics and the colors.

I'm with everyone else, I really like it. And your other quilt came out beautiful too! :D

kso 05-12-2010 09:04 AM

love your title, Coordinated Crappy!

sharon b 05-12-2010 09:04 AM

Ok I looked at the Peach Parfait first and then this one. I love the Peach Parfait, this one is nice also but I agree I like the more organized one. But like you that could be that this one is in darker tones and I like light and bright

Good for you to keep going

RatherB Quilting 05-12-2010 09:05 AM

Wow...I don't do scrappy either...but I really really like it! You are right...the colors are luscious! I think it's fabulous!

Ripped on Scotch 05-12-2010 09:09 AM

I'm all about the "controlled" scrappy. totally random is not always something I can handle

Pam 05-12-2010 09:13 AM

Scrappy is tough for me, too! I still LOVE quilts with lots of color, your is nice, but I, too would rather have one that truly looked like it was woven. The beautiful pattern is lost to the randomness of the fabrics.

That being said I am starting a scrappy d9p this morning, not for me, so let HER decide what to do with it, WHahAHAHA (That is manical laughter).

LaurieE 05-12-2010 09:16 AM

Your quilt is very nice.

MamaBear61 05-12-2010 09:22 AM

That is really pretty too, I was just looking at your other one. Scrappy is definately an acquired taste, and even if you are not pleased with this one it is still great and someone will simply fall in love with it, I am sure.

Dawn Hendrix 05-12-2010 09:29 AM

I just LOVE IT... you can send it to me!!!

GrammaNancy 05-12-2010 09:30 AM

Oh, but it is beautiful. Amazing how those colors go so well together. Very nice.

Rachelcb80 05-12-2010 09:38 AM

LoL, I just noticed your picture title! I really like those fabrics and think the quilt is pretty. But to each his own. Nice to have a top that you don't care for to try your FMQ'ing on. Are you going to donate it once it's finished?

mytwopals 05-12-2010 09:39 AM

Looks like a nice quilt to me. But I have to admit, I'm not a scrappy person either.

Well, I thought it was appropriate. My mother wants it when (if!) it ever gets done.

JudyG 05-12-2010 09:43 AM

I have a hard time with scrappy too. But your quilt colors are very pretty. And I saw your other quilt of the same design and it is absolutely gorgeous.

cminor 05-12-2010 09:57 AM

I keep trying to talk my self into something scrappy - mostly becuase I have a ton of scraps. I had a good time organizing them and cutting them into strips - but for the life of me am having a hard time deciding what to do with them.

There is not enough of any one color or pattern to contol any part of it. I have decided to practice my pinwheels with my scraps. Maybe some day I will use them - but probably not!

kkbrand 05-12-2010 09:59 AM

I love it, beautiful! What is the pattern?

Debbie1 05-12-2010 10:06 AM

It's great! I love scrappys. My daugher would love the colors used! Great job, even though it was hard for you to do!

littlehud 05-12-2010 10:09 AM

I love your quilt. It it so pretty. I can't do scrappy either. I have too much OCD. I still admire them.

kk it's called "Woven Ribbons". I modified the pattern a little, so mine is 8.5 x 5.5 inch blocks with 8.5 x 2 inch strips on either side. Easy peasy. Make as few or as many as you want, add borders and Voila!

thismomquilts 05-12-2010 10:16 AM

Scrappy was tough for me until I looked at it as darks, mediums, and lights... then I got over it!! :) It's been fun. I will most definitely do another one...

Lori B. 05-12-2010 10:16 AM

Very pretty!

cjomomma 05-12-2010 10:16 AM

I love this quilt. I am the opposite, I can sit down and just throw pieces together. The scrappier the better I like it. I guess I am not organized cause I don't have time to plan a project just throw it together. I love this one and I am gonna have to try it.

DebraK 05-12-2010 10:19 AM

So what do you want us to say? Yeah, it's crap? Ain't gonna happen.

You did a good job. Your mother will enjoy it.

belmer 05-12-2010 10:39 AM

I think it looks GREAT, colors are very nice together.

Chele 05-12-2010 10:45 AM

I think you do scrappy beautifully! Scrap quilts will always be my favorite.

quiltluvr 05-12-2010 10:59 AM

I think it's adorable. Love the colors.

amma 05-12-2010 11:14 AM

I really like this one, I agree with Sharon b, the other one is more appealing to me because of the brighter colors. I bet you find a nice home for this one :D:D:D

Quilt4u 05-12-2010 11:15 AM

I like.
