I know the position your in. Same thing with me, however, I was much older at the time (in my 60's) but still had good years ahead. But got sick and was off for 3 months and at the end of that period the phone rang and I was told "Ta Ta". Sometimes good comes from bad. I was able to get disability and STAY at home to nurse my husband who had MS rather severly and passed in 2001. Today, I quilt all the redwork I did when at home with my DH.

Amazing how these things happen. Hope you are well now. Happy sewing!

Looks like you had an extended Christmas.

Glad you got a nice stash of things to help cheer you. |
Love it! And..... love the Hawk's bag!
As for your job, better things are around the corner for you! |
i woul;d keep the go and maybe use it to sell some things hang in there it will all work out
|
Hey figety,
Love all your presents. I would do a face to face with your employer, but find out from your doc when you can go back to work. So sorry about the job. Esp. when jobs are scarce. Don't know what to tell you about the Accu-Go. Best wishes to you and many hugs. Marla |
Keep it and enjoy using it. Thumb your nose at the former boss and keep looking. Something better will come along.
|
Love your attitude. Positive thoughts!
|
I thought it was against the law to fire someone on sick leave? Get a lawyer. Hang in there. Roz

I think that most companies have a time limit on medical leaves. I know when I was working it was 6 months with my company. You went on short term disability and when 6 months was up your position was terminated. Was this what happened to you?

I am sorry, as we all are, that you lost your job in the midst of a medical problem. That has happened to more people than we know - my daughter, too, who is a nurse. That statement doesn't help your situation. Chin up. The upcoming year will be a good one.
|
The laws in FL are very similar. If you are off work and you have run out of short term disability and the insurance co will not grant you any more time, the employer has the right to term you. Of course all situations are different.
Best wishes for the future. Where a window is closed, a door is opened. |
I'd check into that, being fired unless you don't care and was looking for an excuse to play. I was fired once long time ago like in the 70's but my foot was more important than her dang job. Her business closed shortly after, just can't treat your employees like that.
|
What type of place do you work at? I am fairly sure that in most states they cannot fire you for a medical issue. I think they have to give you a medical leave of absents (sp). By the way keep the toy!~

In Texas we have at will also. However when my DIL was "fired" when she was on medical leave, she sued and received a settlement. Keep checking, I think it might come under discrimation too.

Keep the Go and contact the Labor Board, as they can't fire you when not released by your doctor.

I would contact the labor board in my state. JulieM And no, do not send it back! Keep it & have some fun! thanks to all of you for your generous support on my issue.. Let me clear something up. I was not fired by my boss. I was "seperated" (Fired) by my human resource dept. Every state has its different laws and unfortunatley Va's laws suck when it come to protecting a worker. |

My husband was an HR Manager, and as long as there was no medical release by a treating physician the employee can't be fired (separated). There would have to be attempts by your employer (or in this case - the HR departmentand your department supervisor) to find some other job you could do if OK by your MD until you were released to resume your regular job.[/quote] I asked about a different job and she told me there was nothing I could do. I am going to contact my laywer monday and talk to her just to make sure there is nothing that can be done. I am sure they could not have fired me if I was on a workers comp issue but not so sure it is not legal considering it is not a work comp thing. |
Good move. I'm sorry you have to resort of legal advice, but that's what they're there for.
Documention, documention.... and in the mean time... Practice, practice, practice on your new toy... Lucky you.... |

Great haul!
I was fired from a job once for the same reason...Long story short, I contacted a local attorney who specializes in wrongful termination. 6 months later, I was awarded $25,000.00! You might check into an attorney, mine handled my case for a percentage (came out to $5,000.00), but it was well worth it. Hope things improve for you. |

You can be fired if your 12 weeks Family Leave is up and you are not back at work. This law is federal. I guess some state laws could supersede this.
|
I'm sorry to hear about your loss of employment,
Federal law is for job protection if you have been employed with the company for one year and have worked 1250 hours. If you have a serious health condition or an event that qualifies you for FMLA you would have been granted a Family Medical Leave for your event. However, it sounds like you had worked for 4 months for the company then it resorts to State law. In OR OFLA applies for those who have been employed for 90 days or more with the company and have averaged 25 hours of work in a week. Once again it has to be a medical condition that qualifies you or the event of taking care of selected family members, death, etc. under the law and if it you qualify it can not be a hardship to the company. There is a lot of details but I would definitely seek legal advice if you are not comfortable with the HR departments decision and you have checked the policies printed in your employee handbook. In the meantime . . . enjoy your time off and treat yourself to some quality time of quilting and your new gift!! There is nothing more relaxing and self healing than doing something you enjoy. When working full time it's so hard to just use the time as you want to. We can only use the time we have and sometimes it isn't very much!! |
You should be able to collect unemployment and/or disability from the state while you look for another job. Meanwhile, enjoy that GO. I LOVE mine.
|
I need to know more about these machines. I just read another quilter on the board made mention to her GO machine and how it cut her pieces for her rag quilt really fast. Is this the machine you need different die's for? I'm off to do some research!
