Ok so after the big hit yesterday of not being released by the doc to go back to work and then work deciding to fire me because of it.. Blah Blah Blah.......

Fed ex knocked on my door..... then the mail lady knocked on my door... Woooo Hooooo so much for being depressed...
A new toy that I ordered before I lost my job.
( Think I should send it back or keep it?)

Then my sis from Iowa sent me a care package. (Good timing mailing out that package sis!)
So now this evening I will set down and read over my instructions for my new toy and eat my Sterzings chips and dip... I will worry about being depressed tomorrow. lol..

DebraK 01-06-2011 12:44 PM

aww, I'm glad you got some cheering up today ;-)

Rachel 01-06-2011 12:44 PM

Ummm, I'm not sure they can fire you for not being released to go back to work can they?

OKLAHOMA PEACH 01-06-2011 12:45 PM

Wonderful treat, now have fun!

Quilter7x 01-06-2011 12:45 PM

Today is a wonderful day for you for sure! What wonderful "gifts" you got. I don't think you should send the Go back at all, I think you need to use it. Maybe you can make things to sell and that can help you out financially.

We can tell what your supper is tonight!

Raggiemom 01-06-2011 12:51 PM

I'm glad you received some cheer in the mail!

Have a lovely day

bdship 01-06-2011 01:15 PM

Too bad about your job, that happened to me too, cause I wasn't able to the work anymore, but things worked out for the best, got a much better job, worked for myself before I retired. Collect unemployment if you can, play with your new toy, sell some appliques on ebay, things will get better.

Rachel, this is my thought exactly, but would you want to work for a company that treated you like that?

I would contact the labor board in my state.

KEEP IT!!! You deserve it and it can keep you busy so you don't get depressed. See what you can make with your time off. :)

RkayD 01-06-2011 02:04 PM

That is a nice surprise to cheer you up! ON the other hand..it is illegal to fire you because you were not released to return to work.

MOMBASIL53 01-06-2011 02:23 PM

keep it,you can always cut out shapes and sell them here to make money until you find a new job...theres more than one way to make money.........maybe you will make so much you will be able to work from home and won't need to get another job. People hate to cut out small appliques...at least I do. It's worth a try.....right?

jojosnana 01-06-2011 02:34 PM

I wish I had some of those chips.....they look great......Don't be sad and if you did get fired for not being cleared to work, dial a lawyer........

Lillie 01-06-2011 02:42 PM

Sorry to hear about the companies lost. I think you need to check into this, because half of us would be without a job. Keep your cutter and be happy. Thanks to your sis she has my mouth watering. I have not had Sterzings chips and dip for some years now. I know that they brought joy to your eyes and tummy. Blessings sent your way.

Airwick156 01-06-2011 03:23 PM

I am sure they can't fire you for that reason, but they will make another excuse to fire you. So sad employers do that to people. Anyways I sure hope you feel better and I'd KEEP it. Have fun playing with your new toy. :)

klgreene 01-06-2011 04:00 PM

Keep it, especially if it is already paid for. Then just enjoy quilting. Avoid the depression. I was laid off two years ago now, and it turned out to be a blessing. So as mama always said "this to shall pass".

I think you need to check with your state's employment laws. Firing you may not be legal.

bittersweet 01-06-2011 04:13 PM

Sorry about your job but I know what you are talking about. My husband got sick I put in for loa to take care of him was told my loa was ok then got a call from the co that I was let go because of not showing up for work. Then turned down for unemployment because they said I quit. Im appealing the decision. Have to admit Im much happier not working for a large retail co. Good luck you will be much happier sewing.

Luv Quilts and Cats 01-06-2011 04:16 PM

Sorry about the job! I hope you can find a new one as soon as you are better. If possible, keep the Go Baby. It will give you something to work on while home. Your sister is an angel to send you a care package. I don't know how big your fabric stash is, but now is a good time to use it, with your new toy!

This is true, they cant fire you because your DR. would not release you to go back! I have a Human Resource degree, Im telling you the truth. Call the HR department, explain what happened, Im sure they will take care of it for you!
And no, do not send it back! Keep it & have some fun!

daisey 01-06-2011 04:54 PM

Keep it! I was fired once and its really hard ti deal with! Go Hawks,,,I am from Iowa!

MommaDorian 01-06-2011 04:58 PM

Wow, how fun. I love the mailman/ups man/fed ex man. lol

Woohoo, Go Hawks!!! lol

Pat R 01-06-2011 05:30 PM

Good luck!

Mariposa 01-06-2011 05:39 PM

Keep the GO! Make some pretties, maybe sell them too.
Doesn't sound right that they can fire you~~

quiltinggirl 01-06-2011 05:41 PM

So glad to know that you are wearing a smile . . . even if it is just for today! :)

terri bb 01-06-2011 05:45 PM

i'm so new to this but wow!! that fabric cutter looks like it would be so much fun!!! i've done a bit of asst managering in the past, and i don't think in any state it is legal for your boss to fire you while under care of a doctor especially if it's work related. i'd check in to it, it may be worth fighting for! these days jobs are WAY too hard to come across :( be prepared to cross your T's and dot your I's tho if they have to let you back on, they'll be looking for a reason to get rid of you then for sure! but do check in to it and i'll pray all goes well for you!! hope the chips were great!!

The same thing happened to me years ago - needed emergency surgery & the DR (yea, go figure I worked for a DR!) said he couldn't wait for me to recover & needed someone right away  ...turned out to be one of the best blessings that ever came in my back door! :-) (Sometimes they do come that way, you know?)
And, Lori, you know I did it too----married my mailman, that is! 41 sweet years!! - & yes, I was 4 when I was married :!: ;-)

thanks to all of you for your generous support on my issue.. Let me clear something up.

I was not fired by my boss. I was "seperated" (Fired) by my human resource dept. Every state has its different laws and unfortunatley Va's laws suck when it come to protecting a worker.

littlehud 01-06-2011 09:15 PM

I'm so sorry about your job. Pretty uncaring on their part. I'm glad you got goodies in the mail though. Have fun with the Go.

JinaBean 01-06-2011 09:28 PM

Ah, I hear you there. My father-in-law recently lost his job because he was hospitalized for gall-stones. Since Indiana is an 'at will employment' state, they can fire you for no reason, or any reason. They do however offer unemployment insurance to those who lose their jobs. Are you now released from the doctors? As long as you are released, could you perhaps collect unemployment insurance benefits? Of course, you'd have to be actively seeking employment, but it may help make ends meet!

tigger5464 01-06-2011 10:34 PM

I'm happy for the special deliveries that you got in the mail. Aren't Sterzings the absolute best? :D

I am sorry for your "separation" from your job. :( I, too have lost my job for getting injured while on the job. :( Unfortunately for everyone, it IS legal for these companies to "release" you for getting injured. Most states have lots of loop holes that they can cover themselves with. Unfortunately Iowa is one of them and is also a "right to work" state. The workers compensation laws in ALL states need to be revised to protect employees!! Ask me how I know, since I've been going to drs for over 1 1/2 years for the same injury and now may be reinjured due to physical therapy that the dr sent me to!!!

As for keeping the go...that is a hard decision that you alone will have to decide if it will be feasible for your current budget.

Good luck with the things you decide and enjoy the sterzings :D

sewlady 01-07-2011 04:13 AM

Eat a little chocolate with those Sterzings. Wonderful.

quilt3311 01-07-2011 05:23 AM

I'd not be so anxious to just sit back and take being fired because a Dr wouldn't release you. I think that's illegal and you may have legal recourse.

lanagan 01-07-2011 05:25 AM

Believe it is illegal to fire someone on medical leave!

sandyl 01-07-2011 05:40 AM

FMLA? Family Medical Leave Act prohibits anyone from being fired for medical reasons. Even the HR dude. Check in to that. They have to give you other reasons for the firing and they better be legit reasons, too.

Loriew 01-07-2011 06:33 AM

Good for you, I got one to from Santa.

Lorie
