I started this quilt today called Faceted Jewels. I saw it on an Amish quilt site and loved it. I didn't find a pattern on it so I figured it up myself then someone pointed out that it is two different blocks instead of large blocks and sashing like I thought it was. I'm doing it my way. :D
I'm trying out the first block and good thing I did. I based it on 4" finished size for the small blocks but I'm using a Cappuccino Balipop and, like I've read here, the consistency of the cut strips is not good. I did the first 4-patch block and found that it is not even close to being 4 1/2" unfinished size so, I adjusted everything to 4" unfinished. The small flying geese and the large triangle block are paper pieced. Just love seeing the block come together for the first time. |

like your color palette, but that doesn't look like a pattern i would want to tackle--too complicated for me! it sure makes up pretty the larger it gets, though!
|
wow... this is going to be amazing. Your piecing is just Perfect, and that pattern is gorgeous. I've been working with a lot of tans and browns lately, and I have really grown to like them. Now I want to use those colors in a quilt for me. someday. when my List is all crossed off. :-)

I really like the colors together. The lights in the Balipop are more yellow than I thought they were but, I think it looks better than if they were a lighter beige. Not as much contrast but it's also not a stark "white and brown" look.
I need to order another Balipop. I wasn't sure how much of it I could do with strips but I found that I can do everything except for the dark of the large triangle and the HST blocks. There are more darks in the Balipop but that's ok too since I need a lot of the all-dark 4-patches. I ordered 3 or 4 cream batiks a couple of days ago to go with the brown batik yardage I already have. Wish I didn't have to go to work!! |
Wow, beautiful!

Not much progress today but I got some things worked out. The center HSTs are slightly too large to use a jelly roll strip in the usual ways of making them but then I remembered Rhonda's Boston Blocks method and that worked good, was able to use little scraps even.
I can't do the larger HSTs until the beige batik yardage I ordered gets here. I got a third of the 4-patch block sections ready to sew together and that's about it. I really like these colors. :) |

This is going to be an expensive quilt! I ordered another Balipop, a 14 FQ set of Ice Tea, four 1yd cuts of creams, and a Tonga Leaf backing. I'm almost positive that this is enough to make the quilt.
This is the FQ set and the backing. |
Great pattern! This goes in the "Someday" stack!
And you're doing a fantastic job on it. I love the monochromatic color scheme - it puts the attention on the piecing (where it should be IMO). I can't wait to see the finished product. Darren |
Pam I love your work! It is always so fresh & original! You have a great talent for this. Thanks for sharing. I think I still love your avatar quilt the best though!
