Both pics are one mitt - it's double sided. I have the pieces basted for the second mitt, but I got so excited when this one was done that I had to share!

They're fun and easy to make...I smell gift making in these... ;)

I have a question? Do you make them a certain size? Or do you measure your hand then sew i'd love to make one because all the ones i buy are way too big for me to use.

barbsmith 10-08-2010 08:38 AM

Awesome!

amma 10-08-2010 08:39 AM

I used one of my old mitts to trace and cut a template. You have to be careful about making the thumb part any smaller, because it is difficult to turn right side out because of the bulky seams, but it would be super easy to make the rest of the mitt smaller.

How cute and what a wonderful job you did!!!!

Tink's Mom 10-08-2010 09:04 AM

Wow! Terrific...What did you use for lining? Thermolam? or just warm and natural? I may just have to make one...I am giving an apron and utensils for a shower present and this would be great if I matched the apron....

I used 2 layers of cotton batting, and one layer of Insul-Bright. They would be a great addition to your shower gift! I don't even wear an apron in the kitchen and I want to make one to match these!

i'd like the the answer too, if you can, they are always to big for me too, and that can be dangerous trying to use them.

Good idea for the mitt. There's a pattern on the InsulBrite paper.

My sister is going to have a cow! I have all these little quilty things I want to make and no one but me to give them to and I like to share. When I first started to make stuff I told her to just shoot me and put me away if I ever sent her a quilted LAMP! I told her real quilters will quilt anything that isn't nailed down!

Katts 14 10-08-2010 06:09 PM

WOW! they really are nice

RedGarnet222 10-08-2010 06:13 PM

Very cute deema! I guess you and I must be on the same wave length, I cut out some mitts this week too. I have a mccall's pattern I used, but, I made the thumb a little larger and rounder on the tip.
Funny I guess we are just home bodies... LOL!

pattis47 10-08-2010 06:17 PM

Oh no, a couple, now we'll have little ones

I just traced one of my old (and very sad looking) mitts for a template.

watterstide 10-09-2010 03:03 AM

yours turned out so nice..the first ones i made, were sad looking..the thumb part, kind of bunched up at the curve..
and i would make potholders to match! love the fabric too!

Kaye-Kaye 10-09-2010 04:22 AM

super cute!

tooMuchFabric 10-09-2010 05:12 AM

Oh wow. I just made (short long story) some apron panels for BFFs mother with alzheimer's, but I cut the aprons off just below waist height - BFF uses them as bibs for her mom but they are colorful and pretty and feminine and matronly and not embarrassing -
and the panels had some leftover pretty printed bits as well as some printed oven mitt sections!!
I never made them because I thought it would be hard.
Now I shall do!!

Ok: you have an inner fabric lining layer, 2 layers cotton batting and layer insulbrite, and the printed outer later -
Right?
And then you trim close to the stitching, clip around the inner and outer curves -
Right?

I'm so jazzed.
.

Bmanmommy 10-09-2010 05:52 AM

very pretty

CarrieAnne 10-09-2010 05:53 AM

Great gifts.

finch 10-10-2010 02:31 AM

I made an oven mitt for my friend that is coming to visit me next month.I put a little label inside of it with a special saying so that every time she puts it on,she will think of me and all the fantastic times we had baking together.Great job!!

Miss Priss 10-10-2010 04:27 AM

Very nice. I make them without the thumb and put baked potatoes in them to keep warm. Looks nice on the table too.
I am also useing the quilt sample blocks I make for mug r ugs. They make a nice little gift along with a mug, pack of instant beverage, cocoa, coffee or tea.

Sue Fish 10-10-2010 05:01 AM
