Either white or green will work. The geese get lost in the red so a border is a must to make them pop. (Just my opinion)

For me I like the green border. The white makes me look at the background and border and not really see the individual geese blocks. No border makes it look drab but the green border blends in well and I can see the individual geese blocks. Just my opinion.
