I need to know a few things..
This will be for my Godson's little baby boy due August 3rd. So it has to be very special. Just a tad background.. we are extremely close as his mom is my DH sister...his dad is my brother. So we spend lots of time together. We camp together.. vacation together.. 1st Are the colors good together? 2nd What color should I use for sashing? I will be alternating one block like this with one block the dotted fabric (with stars and moons embroidered on them) This is my very first attempt at this type of block.. and trying to read online directions.. this is also all flannel fabric. Thanks in advance.. Faye |
I think I'd like to use the solid medium blue of the pinwheel or maybe a darker blue. Very cute pattern. Good luck. And if I read your post right, my sister and I are married to brothers, so sort of the same "family dynamic". It really makes gatherings fun.
I think I also would go for a darker blue for the sashing. Pretty block and the colors are great.
The block is really cute. I don't know that I would sash it.
I like the colors and would use brown for the sashing.
I would use a darker blue for the sashing and a brown for the intersections of the sashings (cornerstones). I will be very pretty when you are done with it.
Colors are perfect for a little boy, and I too, would use the darker blue for the sashing.
I agree with roadrunr darker blue sashing with brown cornerstones, it would be nice to pull some of the brown from the polka dot block.
Me too - darker blue sashing with brown cornerstones would be very pretty and boy-like.
Oh, that's such a pretty block! I love your fabric choices! I agree with others, to go with the darker blue, for sashing.
Very pretty and I also agree with others dark blue sashing and maybe the brown for cornerstones!
I like it. I would probably sash it in a somewhat darker blue or red. Good for you.
Very nice!!!
Love it, I agree darker blue for sashing!
Love it! I think I'd got with the solid for the sashing. Can't wait to see it finished!
i think i agree with most every one a darker blue for sashing would look very nice, and even the brown cornerstones as some have suggested
Beautiful soft colors. It will make a precious quilt.
I think the cOlors are perfect! I also think Dk blue and brown are great sashing colors! Show u's when done!
I think it's wonderful your all so close and spend time together!! |
wow beautiful! I think thatthe colors work great together! I have the clouded marbley blue on I think it wass a soft cotton. If you can't decide on sashing/binding, do a binding-less quilt and zig-zag across the top
Great choices. Such a cute quilt.

Love your block! Hope you prewashed the flannel it shrinks like crazy
I would go with dark blue and brown and I would put that real soft fabric on the back that would be dark brown to pretty.you will have to show a picture when its all done
I agree with the others, blue sashings and brown cornerstones! Sounds like your kids will be double cousins if I am reading your post correctly (and if you have kids). My mom's sister and my dad's brother married, so I have double cousins. The same thing happened on my husband's side of the family, just one generation removed.
Beautiful block and perfect contrast in colors. I think blue and brown will definitely tie the blocks together nicely as stated above. Will be a cozy quilt in the soft flannels.
Cute fabrics! I agree with the blue and cornerstones.....Waiting to see it finished!

I think a nice chocolate would compliment the polkadots, maybe gather some small scraps and audition, there is already a lot of blue in the block so blue might be a bit much unless it was darker, but I think the chocolate and blue go really good together as I have seen in other quilts. Maybe chocolate sashing and a blue border would set it nicely.

I agree with this, except instead of the off white background, I'd use a white on white or a solid white. The block is adorable. |
I love the block & your fabrics you picked. I think it would look nice with a brown sashing & the blue marble for a corner stone. Then the same blue for a border & bind with brown. It is going to be beautiful when finished.

very good job and the colors are great
You have mastered the block beautifully
I would sash the blocks, in a deeper blue. Great colour combination too. Love this :) |
I have no opinion on sashing or borders, just wanted to tell you how wonderful I think your block is and your quilt will be beautiful no matter how you choose!!
You will get as many suggestions as you get posts. Yes the colors are great together and I would use whatever suits yourself for the binding. You will know what you like for it by the time you get it finished
Looks like I'm in the minority, but I vote for the brown for sashing. Brown is so HOT this year in baby items. Took me a while to get use to it, but like black the brown will give it some pop.
Whatever you pick your family will adore it - you made it - your love is in it and that is obvious by the fact that you would put so much effort into fabric choices. |
Thanks everyone for the kind words and ideas.. but I bleeped when I did this quilt. I did not prewash any of the flannel, so now the entire quilt will need to be redone and this time..not in flannel then. I am so glad that a board member brought up the prewash question on this post. So I doubt anyone will get to see the finished quilt.. as it will now look horrible since I did not prewash. First time using all flannel, and I am not a prewasher of fabric to start with. So me being a newbie self learner..I never gave it a thought. Lesson learned..

Your block is looking lovely. I think that the choice of colours and patterned fabric is gorgeous. I agree with the others that a darker blue sashing will look nice. Best wishes. :)
