I never want to see another Crumb again

I've decided I'm either a hoarder or just cheap. Every scrap for the last 30 years I have saved. Some measured 1/2 inch by 1 inch. I am now cured from this obsession.

marilynr 02-17-2019 07:19 PM

Good job. It was worth all your hard work.

Tartan 02-17-2019 07:40 PM

Cute crumb quilt and now you have a record of your fabric journey!

zozee 02-17-2019 07:46 PM

I don't know how anyone has the patience to sew all those tiny pieces. But it looks kind of cool, really. What will your next project be--throwing out crumbs??

quiltingshorttimer 02-17-2019 08:03 PM

way more patience that me! Cute quilt--especially like that fussy cut strawberry!:)

WANNABEE 02-17-2019 08:11 PM

The blocks are actually 4 1/2 inches, sewn 4 together. A total of 140 blocks. the first 60 were fun, the next 40 weren't, the last 40 was torture. The rest went directly into the trash. Quiltingshorttimer its not a strawberry, its actually an appliqued apple I made (don't have any idea why) in the 1980's.

cashs_mom 02-17-2019 08:37 PM

More patience than me, too, but it is really cute.

BrendaK 02-18-2019 12:05 AM

It's really neat. I admire you for sticking to it. BrendaK

QuiltnNan 02-18-2019 03:05 AM

great looking finish

sewhat540 02-18-2019 03:22 AM

Love it. I know a lot Of time here but a job well done.

Taughtby Grandma 02-18-2019 03:46 AM

Great job, it turned out very pretty. I'm like you though, I learned the hard way not to save anything smaller that 3".

SillySusan 02-18-2019 03:55 AM

Wow! It's beautiful, and is a true treasure. I wouldn't even attempt to do anything like this.

toverly 02-18-2019 04:04 AM

Wow, it turned out great. But I do understand being cured of keeping scraps. I might have to take the cure to work down my stash. Good job.

My thoughts exactly. Your quilt turned out very nice but I would never have that much patience...I bet it would be a cure for collecting crumbs.

Darcyshannon 02-18-2019 04:14 AM

Very cute. I sew little bits together as I go. Great Finish.

ptquilts 02-18-2019 04:30 AM

really nice!! I also go through phases of quilting - for a while I made string quilts with tiny strings, like my avatar. About 1/4" wide strings. Now I never want to do that again!

Jshep 02-18-2019 05:17 AM

Believe it or not, I have made several of these. I have learned some short cuts. Actually, they are some my favorite
to make.

ckcowl 02-18-2019 06:05 AM

Your crumb blocks turned into a great quilt. Good job putting all those together.

Homespun 02-18-2019 06:44 AM

Very pretty!

SusieQOH 02-18-2019 06:46 AM

You're so funny describing yourself!!! :D
It's really pretty and you sure have a lot of patience! I don't do crumbs.

sewnclog 02-18-2019 07:04 AM

I've never done a crumb quilt (but could). I'm like you I have a LOT of fabric in yardage and scraps and crumbs. Good for you for finishing it. It looks nice.

Theresa 02-18-2019 07:07 AM

Your blocks are beautiful. Love how you kinda color coordinated them! Hummmm, may try a little of that with the crumb blocks I'm playing with right now. Thanks for the idea!

pocoellie 02-18-2019 07:22 AM

You did a great job!!

luvstoquilt 02-18-2019 07:31 AM

I love scrappies but not enough patience to use crumbs. I give crumbs to a crazy friend that loves them so I don’t have to feel guilty about waste! Lol

sewbizgirl 02-18-2019 07:37 AM

It's a great crumb quilt, but I totally understand why you need a break from "smalls"!

Jordan 02-18-2019 09:07 AM

Very attractive quilt but you certainly have more patience than I have. I think it will be a nice scrappy treasure for you and it has a story to tell.

Judith1005 02-18-2019 10:30 AM

Bless your heart. Quilters are frugal people. Talk about getting your money's worth! I bet that quilt has a lot of memories in it.

I started letting every piece go that was not at least 1.5 " wide. (Which I can use for mini's and postcards.) Just to save my own sanity.

Your piece is really wonderful. And, It is mesmerizing to look at. Beautiful job! I hope this quilt now brings you joy!

WANNABEE 02-18-2019 11:06 AM

Sorry all, i lack patience but make up for it in pure mule headed obsinancy or you could call it OCD.

maviskw 02-18-2019 11:29 AM

My crumb quilts have won prizes from the audience. One was much like yours: with black sashing. I had started with a little black center and built around it.

I find it gratifying when my box of crumbs is almost gone and I have to wait to create more. But I also do dumpster diving; at quilt workshops. Some people throw away what seems like yardage to me.

sewingitalltogether 02-18-2019 11:47 AM

Love this quilt!!! I can relate to the saving of every scrap. Hey, I paid good money for that fabric. I'm not throwing away a good piece of fabric.
Your quilt will become an heirloom.

costumegirl 02-18-2019 12:42 PM

Good Job1 I like your apple and the placement of the other little blocks mixed in with the crumbs!!! Very cute quilt!!

JenniePenny 02-18-2019 02:58 PM

I guess there is no way, as a quilter, that you'll never see another crumb or scrap. But you'll make the choice what to do with them. Set size guidelines, toss, donate, etc.

BSKTLOFR-QUILTER 02-18-2019 04:13 PM

I just can't bring myself to throw away scraps either. I'm sure I'll need them someday for an appliqué piece or in another quit or a scrappy. This is a beautiful quilt and all from scraps!! Nothing goes to waste. That is what quilting was all about years ago. Good job enjoy the quilt. You will have a story to tell the kids.

osewfast 02-18-2019 04:16 PM

Wow! Bravo - beautiful quilt. Lots of work in there. =)

Sashing makes the crumb quilt work so well.

DJ 02-18-2019 06:07 PM

It's really something though! Beautiful.

QuiltnNan 02-19-2019 04:58 AM

isn't this how Crazy Quilts came about?... using up the small pieces of the fancy dress fabrics? you did a great job!

sue.ross.8782 02-19-2019 06:48 AM

How does it feel to be cured? At least you have a lovely quilt to show for it.:p

jhoward 02-19-2019 07:03 AM

Waste not, want not. Wonderful use of scrapes.

mmunchkins 02-19-2019 07:17 AM

[h=5]Jshep, can you share some of your short cuts?[/h]
