I Re-organized My Whole Sewing Room

It took the better part of two hours, but it was worth it. All the stuff that belongs in boxes are in them. Found some stuff I forgot I had too. Notice the signs inside the boxes? It is so nice to find things quickly now.

i love the idea of the signs inside the boxes. i'm about to get reorganized and that will help!
your space looks terrific.

Beautiful quilting space. You certainly got it nice and neat! Mine looks like a tornado went thru it. One named Logan!

Boston1954 03-29-2013 02:39 PM

Thanks so much. I am always writing information about things on 3 x 5 cards, and one day it came to me that I could go right to the box I wanted if it "told" me where it was. I do not have much space for my favorite hobby, but I make sure I use every inch I can.

How organized your room looks!!! Do you make housecalls?

Grandma Bonnie 03-29-2013 04:13 PM

I love your organized quilting space! Great job!

LynnVT 03-29-2013 04:29 PM

Looks wonderful!

Beautiful quilting space.

Cookie46 03-29-2013 05:00 PM

Great organization. I do the same thing with the index cards. It sure does save time when you are looking for something. Good job!!

Sucia 03-29-2013 05:12 PM

Well, I started the hideous task of reorganizing fabric, but backed myself into a corner, as I can't physically do anymore, and have to wait for my weekly help to come --next Thursday--she's on Spring break. And there is a lot of fabric to put away.

So after I saw you photo, I decided I CAN work on my drawers and weed those out and relable. They are supposed to be "current projects" but I counted and I think there are about 130. Yes if I were a kid today instead of an old lady, I would be ADHD.

Thanks for the great idea. Off to collect pen, lables, diet coke and find my comfy chair.

What an inspiration you are.

I agree patsy... I wonder if she will take fabric in exchange for helping make mine look like that?

watson's mom 03-29-2013 05:58 PM

My quilt room is organized chaos. I don't think I could get another piece of fabric in there if I tried. My friend's son wanted me to repair a shirt for him and brought it to me in my quilt room. He stood there looking around and then asked me if I had ever seen the show 'hoarders' (little brat).

Oh Honey, if I lived closer, I would take that deal in a heartbeat!!!

nygal 03-30-2013 11:10 AM

Good for you!! I bet you are glad it's done.

bdship 03-30-2013 01:10 PM

Cards inside the box makes so much more sense than cutting little pieces of paper & taping them on (like I do). The cards give a lot more writing space too ! Love your well organized space....now I need to go re-do mine, LOL.

mighty 03-30-2013 05:40 PM

Great job!!! Looks really good!!!!

mummyismean 03-31-2013 02:35 AM

Mine would take a lot more that 2 hours maybe 2 days at least. Your sewing room is wonderful

sept97 03-31-2013 03:31 AM

will you come to my house and help me do mine

jmoore 03-31-2013 03:39 AM

doesn't it feel great to have a tidy space? good for you!

Louise607 03-31-2013 03:44 AM

I really need to hang some peg board! Thanks for showing how helpful that is.

twinkie 03-31-2013 04:08 AM

Great job. Wish mine was 1/2 as organized.

lots2do 03-31-2013 04:23 AM

I love to look at other people's sewing spaces. Yours looks ready for a new project!

KathyE 03-31-2013 05:36 AM

Great job! I reorganized my fabric about a year ago but every time I buy more, it ends up in the wrong place so it is not very organized any more.

ccthomas 03-31-2013 06:13 AM

Nice sewing space. I wish I could get this organized in two hours.

Prim Quilts 03-31-2013 06:34 AM

Looks great! Love the labels.

Tweety2911 03-31-2013 06:41 AM

You are a terrific organizer!!! Wish I could make my clutter look so good! Great job!!

MargeD 03-31-2013 08:02 AM

WOW, I'm impressed. It's something I'm slowly getting around to, but we moved from a house to an apt., then I had a spinal cord injury that sidelined me for about 6-8 months last year before I could even start quilting again. However, now that I'm back almost 95% (the Dr. predicted 80%), I'm back to my passion, but I also need to "straighten up" my sewing room, which is also my bedroom, which means if I put anything on the bed during the day it all has to come off at night, which does not help for "organization", but I'm getting better. Congratulations on your hard work, and the labels are a big help.

wolph33 03-31-2013 09:34 AM

looks great and very organized

solstice3 03-31-2013 09:49 AM

been working on mine too but it isn't done...think I will quilt instead of finishing

catmcclure 03-31-2013 10:10 AM

Only 2 hours, you must be a neat freak. Cleaning and sorting my sewing room would take a week at least.

psailer 03-31-2013 10:42 AM

looks great... so organized... i dont think mine will ever be there..lol....

MartiMorga 03-31-2013 10:47 AM

I always start organizing....I get an area done, but instead of going on to the next, I start a project or work on one. If my area ever looked as organized as yours - it wouldn't take me long to mess it up. Great job.
