I made this I spy quilt for my grand daughter Sarah, and also made one for my grand son, Dexter. Since then, my daughters have had three more kids! Of course they think each child should get his / her own I spy quilt. After three more - NO MORE SPY QUILTS Hahaha. My mother-in-law used to say, "Never say never"...

What exactly is an I Spy Quilt? Are there objects in the blocks so that they can play the game? Sorry to sound dumb, just don't know.

An I spy quilt is a quilt made of fabrics which feature pictures of various objects: a boat, cherries, spool of thread, dog, cat, raccoon, star, Christmas sock whatever. Sometimes the pieces are "fussy cut" so that the object fits within the confines of the piece.
The "game" is to say to the child "I spy [fill in name of the object found somewhere on the quilt]" The child then searches the quilt to find the piece with the picture of the right object. Two and three year olds really like to do this. Once the children get a little older, they like to explore the quilt on their own to see the many kinds of objects that are included.
I think it would be a good idea to have an I SPY quilt that encourages the child to learn the names of the objects in another language "Como se dice in Espanol?" "What do you call it in Spanish" for example.

You have the right idea, each square is either fussy cut or has enough of a motif to 'see' it. Each one should be different. Then, play the game. I Spy a ladybug. I spy an army jeep. I spy a fire engine, I spy the color yellow, etc., etc. The ones I have made have been 4" squares and I didn't do an Around the World pattern, just laid them out and sewed them together in rows. I also did one in pairs and you could play Match Game also. This one is very cool!
