11 days later - i am finished w/ the quilt top for my mom. Brief story: My grandmother cut out all these diamond shapes and was going to make a tumbling block quilt. She died in 1945 before ever finishing the quilt. My mom was 7 yrs old at the time.
Several years ago, my aunt gave me a bag w/ all these diamonds and i had intended to complete the tumbling block quilt. Last summer, I found this pattern that i like because it features all the vintage fabrics much better. My plan is to give this to my mom in June when my sister comes in for a visit. Good thing mom doesn't hang on message boards because this will be a total surprise quilt top little key chain things mom picked up .....Yowsa, they're tiny!! my mom brought me back the key chains from one of her summer/fall trips. They are cool, but too teeny tiny for me!!
this is the quilt top i saw last summer that inspired me.... |
Your mom will be so surprised. Can just imagine the tears flowing when she realizes you have completed this.
Please be sure to include some history to this quilt so generations forward will be able to relate this quilt to your granny. |
You are a wonderful Daughter, for doing such a meaningful
gift, tears for sure. |
There will definitely be a detailed label on the back - in fact, the original strip of tumbling block that she started will be part of the label.
|
Very Beautiful. Love the story and the quilt.
Hope your sister doesn't take to long to come see you. I bet your anxious to give it to your mom. |
Wow, she will love it ... and what an awesome history this quilt has to tell to future generations!

Please post a picture once it's quilting. I am very interested in knowing how you it will look and if you are going to hand or machine quilt it. You did a fantastic job and should be very proud! |
What a wonderful opportunity to be able to touch three generations with this quilt! Your mom is going to be thrilled beyond words I bet!

|
Wow! What a special gift for your mom! You're lucky to have each other.
|
My sister and her family are coming back to Ohio in June (they're in South Carolina) I figure that i have just about 2 more weeks of work on a full size Grandma's Flower Garden(started quilting it the middle of August), that i should be able to get that twin-size quilt done by the middle of June.
All i know is that i'm going to shadow quilt the stars w/ 2 or 3 rows of stitching and i have a simple flower pattern for the white blocks....The rest is a work in progress..... Updates will be coming, that's for sure! |
Super nice!
|
You're right, the stars really showcase the fabric; perfect pattern choice.
|
What a beautiful story and beautiful job on the quilt! I love it all!
|
Make a kleenx cover to give her first - it will come in handy when the tears start to flow!
|
You did an outstanding job!! What a wonderful gift for your mom. She will be very moved.
|
How nice of you. And I am sure your Grandma cut those out with scissors not with our current handy-dandy rotary cutters!
What a treasure from your Grandma and what a treasure you are to your Mom. Bless you. :-D |
The quilt is very very nice. It's kind of an optical allusion. One minute I see the baby blocks and the next minute I see the stars. this is Absolutely great. She'll love it.
