I think I stole 15 Quilt Tops!

8 Attachment(s)
Ok, tell me if I made a good deal or not. My aunts boyfriend (81 yrs young) sold me 14 quilt tops for $225.00 total. Meaning $15.00 each. These were made by his wife and mostly his mother! I haven't counted to say exactly how many of each but off hand I know I have at leat 4 king sized Double Wedding Ring and 2 Twin sized. Good Lord I can't remember but the list contains I think they call it the Blazing Star or Star burst.(?) A few regular 3x3 square block patched with Polyester, A Chicken Top and A kitten Top, and so much more! But the thing is most of these are hand stitched! He said his mother quilted some of these "before my time" he says. They are so clean, sturdy and so well stitched! I'm adding some photos of a few of them. OH! I forgot, the green star has hand stitched crosses on each little square. I think I counted 16 of the squares! Let me know what you think! Thanks!! Kathy...(Momma_K)

You Thief!!!....j/k

What a bargain. You lucky, lucky woman.

MamaBear61 02-08-2013 09:25 AM

What a deal. Do they have labels? if not maybe you should label them as best as the gentleman remembers. What a piece of history you have there.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 02-08-2013 09:28 AM

Congratulations to you and your aunt! To her for being spry enough to have a boyfriend at her age and to you on the quilt bargain of the day. I hope you make wonderful treasures from them.

kathy 02-08-2013 09:28 AM

What a wonderful treasure! What this tells me is that the practice of making tops and not quilting them has been around for a very long time.

QuiltnNan 02-08-2013 09:45 AM

that's definitely a steal! you are very lucky, indeed.

mighty 02-08-2013 09:46 AM

sewNso 02-08-2013 09:47 AM

crafty pat 02-08-2013 09:48 AM

I think you hit the jackpot. How lucky you are to have all those beauties.

SouthPStitches 02-08-2013 09:49 AM

What's better yet is the tops literally "fell" into the hands of a quilter that will honor them and turn them into something meaningful. I think his mother would be pleased.

Mom3 02-08-2013 09:50 AM

All are simply precious! If the gentleman indicated a certain attachment to a specific one maybe you could quilt it up for him and send back to him as a gift along with a personalized tag indicating "who pieced it", "who quilted it" and then "given to for his kindness".

nunnyJo 02-08-2013 09:55 AM

r, u, in jail yet. hehe

Valerie Scherr 02-08-2013 09:59 AM

Valerie Scherr 02-08-2013 10:00 AM

it would be nice when you finish them if you could get the dates and name of the woman who made them to put on your label that would make them even more precious.

Helen S 02-08-2013 10:03 AM

I think you hit the jackpot! AWESOME quilts!

MaryMo 02-08-2013 10:06 AM

I won't say you stole them, but you did get a fabulous deal! This is what comes from saving quilts for use on special occasions; I hope you love them as they deserve to be loved. I'm enjoying just looking at them. Thanks for sharing!

Sallyjane 02-08-2013 10:07 AM

quiltsRfun 02-08-2013 03:32 PM

This sounds like a case for the "quilt police" - stolen quilts! LOL

What a deal, wow, that is pretty cool.

NanaCsews2 02-08-2013 04:52 PM

No, not a thief in the least. He sold them to you honestly- they were his to give/sell as he chooses. I would think as long as you give credit where credit is due, ie. 'quilt label recognition', then all is good. They are beautiful.

Friendly Quilter 02-08-2013 04:57 PM

Congradulations!!!! You hit the jackpot of quilts.

RedGarnet222 02-08-2013 05:01 PM

OMG!! I think you are so very lucky! It is a shame that he had no family to pass them down through. I don't envy you having to quilt all of those beauties though. THat will cost a small fortune!

Bueniebabe 02-08-2013 05:56 PM
