That is a beautiful quilt but I think a piano key border would look better than the ribbon. That's just my opinion though.

I would put several color catchers in and use cold water when washing it the first time. (I alway use cold water on quilts to keep colors bright). If you get some run anyway, soak quilt in OxyClean to help remove the color from the white. You can test some of the batik scraps to see how much they run. You can include a piece of white to see if it picks it up. I test fabrics in my washbowl before washing them to make sure they don't really lose a lot of color. There are also two products you can buy either online or at a quilt store: Synthrapol and Retayne.

Beautiful quilt! Can't add much to what the others are saying.

How about a white border the width of the squares in your last row now. Then 3 more rows that in each corner make it look like the corners of the log cabin blocks. Don't bring the colors from these 3 rows all the way to the center of the sides. Leave some white area. But step back each colored row as in the log cabin. If that leaves too much white space on the sides, you could also do those 3 colored rows at the center of each side, also stepped back as in the corners. Sorry I don't have any examples of what I'm trying to explain.

How about a sawtooth border?

Wow! That is a far-out quilt already! It is gorgeous! Love the bright batiks with the white. I would do a white border the width of the squares in the last row (indycatcarol said that also). Then do one more border(one of the blues or purples)double the width of the white.

I think a simple border would really set it off and make the quilt stand out even more than it already does.

Wow! I love your use of color! I'm afraid I have no suggestions, but am anxious to see what you end up with. Have you thought about checking at the library for a book on borders?

I was thining the same thing. Maybe a small border, and then the piano key. Your quilt is beautiful.

Thanks for all the help in helping me decide. I think piano keys or maybe a two inch squares (of all the colors used) all the way around after putting on a white border to separate it from the quilt and then another white one. To me this will give it a picture frame affect? I knew that when I asked this question I would get led it the right path to follow. My hat is off to you ladies. Robin

Your quilt is simply fantabulous!! (Fantastic + Fabulous!) It is just so gorgeous. I would lean towards a white finish with dark binding. It is simply gorgeous! :-D :-D :-D
