I totally agree with you about throwing scraps away!! Just look at the beautiful scrappy you made with all your scraps. I also give scraps to someone and she appreciates it sewww much.

That is simply fantastic! I love it!

I love the quilt and your phrase "scrappy happy" quilt. Our quilting group gives our tiny scraps to a lady who also makes dog beds and we waste nothing. Your quilt is indeed happy and makes me smile. I think Scrappy Happy is the perfect name for your quilt. It makes me happy just to look at it.

Any of my smallest pieces I take a "page" from Bonnie Hunter and make crumb blocks, which I then put together for charity quilts.

Oh! Thanks for sharing!!!!! This quilt is really sunny, bright and cheery. I can only add that I adore your freedom of form with your scraps. I, too, cringe when people throw out their scraps. Scraps are a "gold" mine for creativity just waiting for someone like you to work your charms....

Mariposa 08-20-2012 10:31 AM

Terrific scrappy! Love the bright colors, especially the cheddar yellow!

red-warrior 08-20-2012 05:05 PM

Bright and Beautiful!!!!

Thanks for all the kind comments. The gold was intended to be stripping around each 6" square. Wow it only takes a small piece to over power with the gold. I had made 6 squares. I had to take them back up stairs and whack them all up and then make new squares out of the whacked up ones. I started this when my shoulder was broken and I had had surgery on the other shoulder. I could not do accurate cutting or much of anything else. I did find that I could push those little scraps through the machine. If you choose to do something like this, do starch your blocks heavily before you cut because you have bias everywhere. I loved doing this and I am making one with 12" squares now. My grandkids love it because they can pick their quilt fabrics out of the quilt. So much fun. The name of the quilt is not Scrap Happy although I might use that on the 12" blocks. The name is "If life gives you scraps...". Thanks again for all the kind comments on my Scrappy Happy.

ghquilter53 08-21-2012 02:57 AM

Love the quilting spool of thread motif. Kind of reminds me of how my thread drawer can get.

mary705 08-21-2012 03:38 AM

Great quilt.

GailG 08-21-2012 03:55 AM

I love your "happy scrappy" quilt. And yes, sometimes life does give us scraps, but we gals know what to do with them! I suppose it's too early in the morning for my eyes to focus very well, but I don't see spools of thread nor do I see needles and thread. What foundation did you use, or did you use any at all? I'm still coward and haven't jumped into the water of my scrap bins. You did a fine job!!

leamelon 08-21-2012 04:00 AM

Great, that's why I like this group .---gives me ideas.

I am one who makes dog beds from scraps. Last one given was big-- as they had asked for it. Thinking 2 yards should make a good sized dog bed? What do you think?

jbj137 08-21-2012 11:24 AM

I love it.
I am with you on not throwing away.
