"Illusions"
3 Attachment(s)
It's time to make my fourth grandchild's "big" quilt. Shawn asked for the "Illusions" pattern by Carol Bryer Fallert. If you've not visited her website, go look. Here is the quilt I'm making for Shawn.
http://www.bryerpatch.com/images/qui.../Illusion2.htm Pretty snazzy, huh? I just hope I can make mine look half as good as hers. I started out making two prototypes. The green one was first. Too small! SO I increased the size of the block. Much better! I learned that prints don't really work with this pattern when I made prototype number two! The third picture are the first two blocks I've made so far for Shawn's "TGIQ" (The Great Illusion Quilt). I think I'm going to have to make a dozen of these. Egads! What did that grandson of mine get me into? Okay! Now to see if I can attach some photos. I've not posted any pics for awhile. Wish me luck! |
Wow! Love the third one.

That is amazing! You sure took on a challenge, but it will be so awesome!

I'm not sure why you think that prints don't work in this pattern ... I quite like #2!
Oh my Heavens, My mouth just dropped opened I was so taken with them. Are they hard. They look tremendously hard.
Wow......very cool! Looks like it would require a great deal of thought! Kudos!
Oh My - you are right. That boy has taste though and you certainly can do the job. Fantatic
Wowzer! I love the third one. I agree with you....I don't think prints work with this pattern. :) But, the thid one is fantastic!
Yes, very intricate pattern.
Wow! What a pattern and what a great job you have done putting some test pieces together. I love the second design. If I had made it, it would be displayed on my wall for all to see. Lots of patience and best of luck to with this quilt. It will be a stunner.

The first few photos are very interesting -- but the last two side by side are amazing!!!!!

oh Yvonne, that is just too cool! no wonder everybody wants one!
Major kudos to you for persevering because 3 times is definitley the charm with this pattern. I love it done in the blenders. So much more striking and to me visually appealing. Great job!

Thank you everyone for all the encouraging words. I hadn't noticed the price tag Ms. Fallert had on her quilt. Boy! My grandson is getting a very expensive gift! :)
The one saving grace in this madness is after I've sliced and diced the two sets of triangles and I've mixed the strips together I only have to match the middle seams. The other seams just fall where they will. The second plus is the strips, after they're cut, are on the bias so they fit together very easily. Thank goodness. All I have to do is remember what goes where! And I've already sewn one set together dark to light when it should have been light to dark! Oh, well. It's not the first error and probably won't be the last! And it's not fatal!!! Thank you again! I appreciate your positive feed back more than you know! |
Great block the last two are my pick!
This is going to look amazing when you finish it in the fabrics you've chosen.
These are very interesting.
Can't wait to see this one finished. You've got more patience than I do! Looks great!
Spectacular! Good for you for going for it. Look forward to seeing the completed project.
WOW I love it. Something like that is on my bucket list.
I agree that the prints don't work, lovely with the batiks you used in the last pic
Shawn's quilt is going to look fabulous! Hope to see a photo when the top is finished.
Thanks for sharing, this is very neat.
That is stunning. I am curious to know if you press your seams open or to one side. It's great to have a new challenge!
How did your grandson come to choose this pattern? How old is he?
He made a very sophisticated choice - - - - (I don't think I would have shown him the pattern!) |
These are beautiful and interesting! Thanks for sharing.
