Im a scrapper and a lil bit of a Hoarder too...

I pulled out a few my 10.5 batiks from the monthly swaps that ive accumulated since 2010, and decided to make a tumbler quilt.. so for the last two nights i was cutting large tumblers with my GO... BUT.....
i realized that if i use my GO triangle die to cut here...... and another triangle cut here.. and sliced these sections... . This is what i end up with.. tumblers, triangles for another quilt, 3.5x5 inch chunks for almost anything, strips for the birds to make spring nests, and triangle wedges... and guess what !! I can even match the 'triangles wedges' to make lil blocks !!! ... Nothing went into the trash ! I utilized every lit bit... and THATS the hoarder in me.. Thanks for looking.. |
Wow! You really are recycling to the 9th! Nice job!
great job on making the most of what you have.
great use, and I can't wait to see the quilt
Great job of recycling!! Please do show pictures of the quilt(s) when completed!

I am with you on being a hoarder of scraps. I even save those thin strips to wrap around cloths line rope to make bowls, baskets & hot pads out of. I just hate wasting anything concerning fabric. I also use the small triangles that I cut off a block & put two together & use them as starters & enders while constructing other blocks. All that thread that would have been cut off & tossed is now being used. You would be surprised how much thread is really wasted by not doing this. Once you get a pile of these you can keep using them till you get a block made out if them & you can come up with so many different blocks with them & make your own creation.

great use of the fabrics

This is going to be a delicious scrappy! Looks like a tossed salad!:D

***Super smart save. *** |
love it!
and you just taught me something. the strips that are too thin to use can be given to the birdies!! thanks! |
I do the same. As I cut my pieces for my project I use my other shapes and cut them until there is nothing left to cut. I also end up using them for borders, pillow cases, etc. Its only when I am in a hurry that I end up with a scrap pile not cut. I do have a rule only one basket full of scrap pieces...and when it cuts full I cut them up into shapes and store them for a scrappy quilt.

Great work! I love batiks too!
Atta Girl!!
I wouldn't say 'hoarder'.........I say 'frugal'! and smart!!
good use of your fabric!!!
Great use of your fabric and the colors are beautiful.
great use of your fabrics, to the very last inch!! I get frustrated at Missouri Quilts company doing piecing that make so much waste of fabric.
Very nice, and you are making good use of what you have. I am becoming more like that too. The part you throw to the birds for nest I have used to stuff inside a doggie bed. Works great.
Well done! Love that you are so organized!
Quick thinking. You go girl!
My hats off to you for doing a terrific job on cutting up your stash into such useful pieces! Applause!!
Excellent thinking. You will have some really lovely quilts. Be sure to share with us.
Great use of scraps.
A quilter after my own heart. Love what you did!
You are my idol right now lol! I thought I might be the only one but there you are! I hate wasting fabric! Can't wait to see your quilt.
I don't think you are either a hoarder or cheap. You are "resourceful" with your fabric so that you will be able to create many beautiful items. I admire your thought process and thank you for sharing. We can always learn how to become more "resourceful."
At the price of batiks, I think it is only smart and thrifty as well! Not a hoarder--just not a spend-thrift!
Thanks for the great idea for the little strips from when I square up blocks. Love what you did.
Good job! Now you can come over and cut mine. Lol
Not for the bird nests...fabric takes longer to dry than the grass/twigs/leaves used by the birds to build their nests and can cause baby birds to die of respiratory illness. Fill pillow cases for local vet or rescue centers.
Great work. You're not alone. I do the same thing! Unless the pieces are literally strings, why not keep them?
Good job in using all those scraps to make something that is going to be really pretty.
So dreaming of a Big Go and dies to match...Great job..You "Go" girl...lol :)
Very well done! Can't wait to see the finished quilt or quilts!
Wow! That's clever. Can't wait to see one of those quilts.
Great idea.

I've never seen anyone use one of these cutting machines, nor thought I would ever want one. But your demonstration -- these great cuts! -- have me intrigued. Probably will not ever acquire one, but the possibility is now there, in the back of my mind. How easy and fun it must be, using one for these kinds of cuts!
And congrats on rescuing all the scraps! Very clever....and economical. (Let's not talk about hoarding! ) |
Hi, luvToQuilt. I had to smile when you said "I'm a scrapper". There is a town in Arkansas whose local high school football team is called Scrappers! Two of my youngest brothers played on that team a number of years ago.
I like your idea of making every inch count....the birdies will have custom home decoration! |
I am loving those fabrics and your not hoarding, your frugal. it's the best thing is when you can make a whole quilt from the things that you would normally just toss out. Please cut the stringy leftovers so the birds feet do not get tangled.
great job! love the fabrics and that you have no waste
