I've had that piece of airplane fabric. A couple of years ago one of my grandsons sai: "Grandma, I'd like a quilt out of that". Needless to say, he got a quilt out of the airplane fabric. His twin sister got one out of hot air baloon fabric. You can't give one something and not the other.
I like your really well. So bright and colorful.

What a great idea... a shower of used items...

I remember back in my university days a friend got pregnant and no one in her family wanted to help her. After her TWINS were born a friend and I went to Goodwill and bought her a load of stuff(intending to tell her that it was some things from our families that they wanted to give her). The manager could see we weren't pregnant and asked who we were buying for. We told her the story and before we knew it we had BOXES of items in the back of Cathy's old Tercel. We went back several times before we graduated and the response was always the same... "What size are they now and take what you think she'll use." Cath moved to Nova Scotia and I left the city too...

Gosh those girls are over thirty now! I wonder what happened to them?

She is very blessed to have coworkers like you and your family. What a great quilt. I have done a similar style but never thought of quilting it the way you did. I will try that next time.

mysacrifice 06-30-2010 04:43 AM

That is a wonderful story/blessing and you will be blessed 10 fold for helping Elsa out. I was once a single mother myself and I've always had such a soft spot for young mothers without a father in the picture. May God bless her. That quilt is beautiful and will mean the world to her.

Sewlmatesister 06-30-2010 05:57 AM

You are so right, the feeling of giving is amazing!!!

You did a wonderful thing...And your quilt is beautiful. Elsa has family here... You guys......

KathyAire 06-30-2010 06:30 AM

Love the quilt and love the story. I have never sold a quilt, nor intend to. I get a tremendous blessing from giving. It's a shame that some people will never experience that, but basically, I think most people are kind.
Thanks for sharing.

The history of quilters is that their heart is put together with patches of love. That love just keeps growing and giving. Pay it forward is what I think we all believe in. This is a heartfelt group. Good thoughts

Oh stop. You guys are making me think this was far more than anyone else would do... and I don't believe that!! I think there are people out there that really don't give a care, but most of everyone else DOES.
Elsa is the kind of girl that would give the shirt off her back... and this was just our way of paying it forward to someone who deserves it. SHE is the one who felt her blessings a hundredfold- or so I hope! We just love her to pieces. :)
Besides, this is the kind of thing that most of us grew up knowing was the 'right' and normal thing to do... not to receiving blessing, but to bestow blessing upon another because you can. And we could, and we did, and I hope it blessed her!

I need to get the shower pictures from the sister that hosted it; once I do I'll post them on here too.

THANK YOU everyone! You all are too kind... I didn't post with the hopes to have so many nice things said.. just wanted to share my first baby quilt (btw, so much easier than a bigger one, lol!!) and the story behind it. :D

wildyard 07-01-2010 05:51 PM

Makes one proud to be part of the world when knowing there are such as you and your sisters and friends in it!! A very welcome change. Bless you all and the new mom and baby!!!

You have truly shown this girl you work with how loving Americans be. I hear so much on the TV about immigrants that makes them seem "bad". It is wonderful to see your love going out to her and her new baby. Thank God for real loving Americans like you!

wvdek 07-02-2010 07:08 PM

You have a generous and loving spirit. Good for you and your sis.
