I made this runner from a pattern in an old issue of Quiltmaker.
At the time I was also making the Sunflower flip flop quilt and had lots of scraps so I decided to make this with the leftovers. The stems of the flowers were supposed to be bias cut and appliqued, but I was having too much touble getting the fabric to bend as much as I needed it to, so I gave up and did them in a wide satin stitch. It was much easier.

What a great idea for the stems! I often look at a cool applique and think.. ah darned those curved stems.. and I pass on it. The colors are wonderful. That is a year round table runner to me!

Your color choices are great. A beautiful quilt.

Easy, easy way to make stems is to cut your fabric (I cut mine 1 1/8") on the bias, fold in the middle lning up raw edges and after drawing a line where you want your stems, stitch 1/4 inch from the raw edge of our your strip, stitching on this line, then fold the folded edge of your strip over the sitching and raw edge and top stitch. Hope you can picture this, if not let me know and will post some photos.
