I'm sorry I do not know the name!

I think it is wonderful you have inherited these quilts and her sewing - - I would be in heaven if someone did that for me! If you are planning to launder them be very careful and not use detergent. Maybe you know this already so sorry if I am "butting" in; someone in my family ruined a beautiful double wedding ring quilt made by my great grandmother's sister. She had used the thirties and forties fabrics which have a different make up of chemicals than todays fabrics and the fabric ripped and tore in spots in almost all of the fabrics. Just want to save you some grief!
I would get some advice on laundering them before you think about washing.:) This board came help you with any thing quilt related. They are wonderful people.

Do you have any plans for trying to finish the ones that aren't quite finished? If there are that many unfinished quilts there must be a mountain of fabrics. You are going to have FUN.

Just start on one and finish it all the way. Time has a way of speeding along.

All of the are beautiful and will be even more so when quilted and finished.

KathyPhillips 05-10-2013 02:16 PM

I am so flabbergasted by your inherited treasures!! Boy I should be so lucky, although I am sad by the loss of a fellow quilter. :( I can't even imagine what I would do but am so happy to hear you are attempting to hand quilt them...that is a labor of love! You have been truly blessed.

whinnytoo 05-11-2013 03:46 AM

Treasure these and try to get them finished. They are all wonderful. You really are very very fortunate to have these.

Nanny's dollface 05-11-2013 06:24 AM

The quilts are beautifully made. So glad they went to a wonderful home where they can be completed and treasured. I too am a newbie so I can relate to the un daunting task of learning how to quilt let alone completing quilts you had never started. Take it one quilt at a time, advancing a skill in each quilt. This board has been wonderful to ask questions and seek guidance on the art of quilting. Enjoy!

lkahle 05-11-2013 06:47 AM

wow what treasures ! wish i could be that lucky if you ever get bored or overwhelmed i'd gladly take some of them off your hands

quilting nurse 05-11-2013 07:09 AM

How fortunate you are to have received these treasures.

jbj137 05-11-2013 09:24 AM

I love the Iris quilt.
That is my favorite flower.

jackied 05-11-2013 09:58 AM

Great tops. Hope you do get into it and finish these and others you say you have. I like the embroidered purple one best.

IBQUILTIN 05-11-2013 10:31 AM

You have acquired some wonderful treasures. Don't you wish you had the information about all of them, and why they weren't finished. I have four that my Grandmother didn't finish, and 3 are salvageable. I am going to finish them up for myself and one for each of my siblings. I hope they like them as much as I do. My Mom was able to find pieces from some of her school clothes in one of the tops. Mom passed away at 83, so you can only guess at how old they are

Country1 05-11-2013 11:05 AM

WOW, you are one LUCKY LADY! I have always wanted a Double Wedding Ring, bit have never felt I could do it. I am sure you will enjoy these and treat them as the treasure they are!

easykay1 05-11-2013 11:22 AM

I think the quilts tops you sent a picture of are beautiful. I think you are a treasure in keeping them we all have UFO's. Have a wonderful time going through her stuff and finding all the treasures.

1screech 05-11-2013 05:40 PM

You inherited some beautiful threads and quilt tips. What a great treasure and how lucky you are for having these lovely tops.

BrendaY 05-11-2013 05:42 PM

"tops only" are great just as they are..

I love vintage quilt "tops only" because then I can see the handquilting on the backs.. Plus they take up a lot less space! Looks like the sweet lady just loved piecing them.. Quilting is a whole different ball of wax! Of course the quilting adds another dimension and especially hand quilting!

You are a very lucky lady!

oldtisme 05-11-2013 06:02 PM

mimmy you and I are in the same boat on the very new, you are very lucky to get all those beautiful tops. You can learn quilting almost from the end instead of the beginning, you'll be a pro at sandwiching before piecing lol.

Nammie to 7 05-11-2013 06:53 PM

Very beautiful - you have a lot of work ahead of you but it will be well worth the time and effort when you are finished!

Gannyrosie 05-11-2013 06:58 PM

Good Luck on your adventure. They are all beautiful tops. Myself, the old traditional quilts are my fav and yes, they have to be HQ'd. Anything else would just not work. Thanks for sharing for we are all envious.

cpcarolyn 05-12-2013 09:13 AM
