I just finished this ‘back of the couch’ quilt for my sonfor Christmas. It is 6 1/2 feet long and60 inches wide.Something to curl upunder on each end of the sofa to stay warm while watching those favoriteChristmas movies!I backed it withanti-pill fleece and use 80-20 batting and then quilted it with my ‘InsaneSwirlycues”.I hope he likes it!

Love the quilting. I've haven't backed a quilt with fleece,is it hard to quilt with DSM? Or should it be quilted on LA?

I've done both LA and DSM and they are both doable. You just have to be careful not to stretch the fleece too much because it will distort the quilt.

Great job . Your son ought to love this quilt.

shy 12-13-2014 06:48 AM

He will like it no doubt..I use pieced binding often ..I think it adds to the quilt..As it does on this quilt..nice job all the way ..

Fuzzykittenbutt 12-13-2014 08:03 AM

Nicely done and I love your "insane swirlyques!" And the binding is also really cool with the diagonal stripes!

I Wholeheartedly agree with Tartan! Really like how you did the binding. Would you share how you did it?

Piecing the binding is really easy. It just takes a little more time. I cut the leftover fabrics from the quilt op into strips. Sewed the strips together (I alternated a white strip between each color strip) until I had about 3/4 of a yard of the pieced fabric. I cut this 'fabric' on the bias to make my binding strips.

jenOSU 12-14-2014 05:32 AM

Wow, love the colors, the design and the quilting. I haven't tried pieced binding yet, maybe on the next quilt

MagaQuilt 12-14-2014 06:11 AM

Beautiful quilt - how do you get the fleece to move on the machine bed when using a DMS? Son is very lucky - it is a huge quilt!

Dilyn...hate to be a dunce, what do you mean by fabrics from the quilt OP? Is it your leftover 4 patch units or your borders? What does each color measure? I would like to give it a try because your result is so dramatic so hope you don't mind my asking.
Once again I just want to say how stunning I think your quilt is stunning and to think it uses only 3 colors! Your choice of colors, putting your blocks on point and the binding really made an amazing quilt!

That was supposed to read 'quilt top' not quilt op.lol I had excess fabric after I cut my blocks and borders. I cut the colored strips 3" the white ones 2". Just PM me if you have any problems and I will help when I can...

I didn't have a problem with the fleece moving. but I do polish my sewing machine with Pledge after each quilt. If you've ever over sprayed Pledge onto your floor, you know how slick It can be!!!

indymta 12-14-2014 11:40 AM

delyn...thanks so much for the info. Definitely will give this binding option a try!
