Insanity Mini

3 Attachment(s)
I enjoyed seeing the Mini Pineapple so much from LyndaOH that I remembered that I made a crazy mini about a year ago that almost drove me to the very edge of insanity. While making the bed one morning I got the brilliant idea to make the same quilt "Mosaic Memories" which I made about 10 years ago in miniature. I even had many of the fabric scraps from that quilt in my stash. After many starts and stops I finally thought I had it finished, but you all know that after looking at something so closely for days and months you really cannot see it clearly. My DH came in as I was putting the blocks together, looked at it, and frowned. I knew immediately that something was very wrong and he either didn't want to say it, or just wasn't sure what he was looking at. I said, "tell me what you are seeing!!!" In one block I had done the color progression wrong and when he showed me...it was glaring. I ripped it out and went back to work. What a nightmare! Each little square measures 3/8" and I used PPing and strip method to make each block. The whole thing measures 21". Not exactly to scale, but quite a feat. I "think" I had fun doing this?!? The pattern for Mosaic Memories is still available on the web.

I'm surprised to didn't cry first, have a tall glass of wine, a good night's sleep before attempting the correction. The mini quilt is amazing. Congrats.

SewExtremeSeams 02-06-2015 10:09 AM

You are far more patient and dedicated to PPing. Congratulations on your finish.

WoW! you have so much more patience that I do. That is one great little mini.

ManiacQuilter2 02-06-2015 10:32 AM

Yes, truly insane but sometimes it is good for us older quilters to try to challenge ourselves once in a while.

Thank you all for looking! I do like a challenge, but I kind of hope I don't get any more great ideas like this one.

redquilter 02-06-2015 04:09 PM

I applaud you. This is an incredible quilt. One so tiny I'd never try. My arthritic fingers just wouldn't allow it.

JoyjoyMarie 02-08-2015 08:22 AM

One beauty of a piece of work. Great finish!

Sneed 02-08-2015 09:38 AM

Thanks, but I'm not so sure about maintaining my sanity. Those who look at it kind of look at it and then look at me and then just shake their heads. There is doubt.

I love it! There's something about the challenge of a miniature that appeals to me. Your subject made me think you might be doing a miniature of the Insanity Quilt! Yikes!

Both the large quilt and the mini are just beautiful!

Annz 02-08-2015 10:17 AM

That is definately very striking.

cwessel47 02-08-2015 10:24 AM

How dare you post something so stunning - and insane - when I have just decided that I don't want to tackle that kind of challenge again for awhile. Marvelous! Beautiful! Amazing!!

JanieH 02-08-2015 11:43 AM

Truly amazing and totally insane! Fantastic job and a good eye from your husband!

Sneed 02-08-2015 03:25 PM

Oh, come on!! I can't wait to see what you and LyndaOH come up with. There are many more out there that would be fantastic as minis

I forgot that there is an "Insanity Quilt" out there for real. I bet you really did think I had lost my mind.

grammyto2 02-08-2015 07:06 PM

what a beautiful work of art, congratulations. marvelous!!!!!!!!!!

fxsts93kf 02-09-2015 10:00 AM

Even though I know what 3/8 of an inch is, I still had to look at a ruler. That is unbelieveable!! And beautiful! You are one tenacious quilter. I would have given up before I started. Congrats on the finish!!

indymta 02-09-2015 12:21 PM

Love your mini quilt! I can't even imagine trying to attempt something like that. Kudos to you!
