Gorgeous!!! My absolute favorite flower. I have several at home. My grandmother was a hybridizer in the 1950s in the Los Angeles area, and our family still has rhizomes that were from hers way back then. We call them "Grandma Jessie's Purple Iris". They are the heritage type, with very plain falls, no ruffles. We just cherish them!!

Rumbols 04-20-2011 10:01 AM

Beautiful. Thanks for posting.

mimom 04-20-2011 10:03 AM

lucky you, Monday mine were burried in snow. They still have a lot of growing to do.

TerryQuilter 04-20-2011 10:04 AM

One of my favorite flowers 8-)

cuppi duke 04-20-2011 10:06 AM

Lucky you. It has been so cold in Idaho it doesn't even seem like spring yet. You need to draw your iris and make a quilt. They are beautiful.

Kooklabell 04-20-2011 10:06 AM

Oh Thank you. Its so cold here this Spring that my daffies just bloomed and I'm still waiting for the tulips. My Iris are a long time away :( We're only getting one day of sun each week.

running1 04-20-2011 10:09 AM

I just love the "flags" as Momma used to call them... Mine will bloom in the next few days, here in Western Oklahoma... We're praying for rain, btw... worst period of drought since the Dust Bowl days!

PiecesinMn 04-20-2011 10:10 AM

Beautiful, one of my favorite flowers. (Can you tell by my avatar) My irises are only 3 inches from the ground and it snowed today. Picture was taken last spring. This Spring may never make it here.

mltquilt 04-20-2011 10:32 AM

They are absolutely gorgeous. I have purple ones but they are from plants that were from someones front yard years ago. She referred to them as native iris (live in Texas). Maybe next year I will put in a bigger bed and get some hybrids.

What a way to brighten someones day. Thank you for sharing.

Threadedneedle 04-20-2011 11:09 AM

What a beautiful picture to see on this dull drab cool morning!! Thank You :-D

montanajan 04-20-2011 11:35 AM

Beautiful irises, & great location you have! I'm jealous of both.
My irises, just poking up, received 2 inches of snow last evening - sigh, Spring is very late this year in NW Montana! With 150% our average snowfall still to melt in the mountainous high country, the low areas will be flooding along creek & river banks come June for sure. Glad we listened to hubby's Dad when we built - "high & dry". Glacier National Park may have a very late opening - there's at least 10 to 20 feet of snow to be removed by bulldozers in May & early June on top of Logan Pass, "Going to the Sun" road, as the Native Americans called it.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful irises - MIL always called them 'flags'.

I'm also in MNand mine are also "barely" 6" tall. If it would ever stop almost freezinfg at night, maybe our flowers would decide to grow. (But then my flower gardening does cut in to my quilting time in summer!!) Ugh!
