Finally got a pic. As we were almost finished with out tour of the farm house I spotted this baby. It was headed to the fire and I rescued it. Is all cleaned up, covered with a thin layer of batting and muslin, and I now have the greatest ironing surface I ever had.

What a great ironing board. I'm glad you rescued it.

What a find! How big is the surface?

Maride 05-09-2010 10:17 AM

Is about 14 inches wide by 4 feet long. Not big for big jobs, but great for piecing. I use my sewing table 4' x 6' for big jobs.

I'm glad you found it and are able to use it. I love the charming look of it in the picture. Thanks for the info! :-)

Mine is very similar, with steel legs. Same era, I'm sure. My grandpa bought the legs as a kit and made the top out of plywood. It's heavy as anything, but incredibly stable. Congrats! You'll never want to trade that baby in.
