They have only just started doing take aways here as well and you have to be inside a certain perameter, and definately not up a mountain LOL. Usually youhave to go to get your take away here, but we are now very modern with Indian, Thai, and Chinese food, all of which I love, we even have real fish and chips YUM

Hi Elle! Yes, my parents go to Spain (near Alicante) a couple of times a year as my uncle has a villa there, and they say that. We have a fish and chip van in the village once a week but it ain't great and there used to be a curry van which was really good but it seems to have packed in. Still, soon be in Somerset and there, they'll deliver EVERYTHING!

Butterflyspain 06-22-2010 09:13 AM

Great, somethings are still good in dear ole Blighty then.

I have to point out, that is only very recently that the old take away has become famous in this part of Spain. when I first came here there was nothing, so its still a bit of a novelty. Alicante is quite a large area compared to here.

sandpat 06-22-2010 04:34 PM

I'm wondering...by take away..do you mean like home delivery? or just carry out..like you go pick stuff up at the restaurant and take it home? If its home delivery....don't feel like the lone stanger because where I live there is NO delivery either. I guess they think that people who live where the sunshine has to be piped in don't eat  We do have carry out though...

Chatfield 06-22-2010 04:35 PM

Absolutely lovely!

Yes Patti, Take Away is what you call carry out. Home delivery is practically unheard of in this area, although I do think that the Pizza guys have got their act together, but I am not into Pizza.

Ok, I'm adding these pictures a bit late, my bad, but here is the finished product with the brown borders I didn't want to add, but had to because I happened to have a major blonde moment while cutting my white. *eye roll* I was so sure I had it calculated right... *sigh

Patti, I hope the mail is fast! I got your package this week

Note: I couldn't stand high enough on any piece of furniture in my living room to get the whole thing in, but you get the idea :)

sandpat 06-24-2010 04:32 PM

Mel...that turned out beautifully! Now...what to do, what to do...Gai, I swear, I'll figure out something. I promise  But please ya'll don't kill me if I don't get both your (Gai) and Mel's out by Aug. 15...but that would be nice wouldn't it??

Gai...I'm still thinking, but please send those flowers anyway..I just had a small brain hiccup.

gaigai 06-24-2010 04:59 PM

OK, I got an update from JoeAnn last night. After a month and a half of trying to get her doctor to take her seriously about her severe arm pain, she had an MRI last week. The MD called this evening to say that she has several severely herniated and bulging discs in her neck and that she was referring her to a neurosurgeon STAT for surgery. Poor JoeAnn was a better woman than I would have been, she didn't remind the doc that this had been going on as long as it had. :hunf: I also told her that if she were a dog, she'd be blind, have three legs!

Anyhow, I finished k3n's center. I'm having to hide it from Mom. She actually stole it off my sewing table and tried to hide it and keep it! But I have it safely boxed up and will mail it to Esqmommy this morning.

K3n is in the process of moving back to Britain, and won't have internet access for another week or two. She FORBADE me to post unless she saw it first, so that's why I posted the unfinished round before. This is complete! Whew. That was a lot of petals!! LOL

Gai, that is really lovely and goes so well with the centre. Well done I love it.

Elle

gaigai 06-29-2010 08:14 AM

Thank you Elle!

sandpat 06-29-2010 01:11 PM

Gai...that is wonderful!!! I can see why you are having problems with your Mom...quick!! Get that baby in the mail!!!

You did a great job..I love Monsieur LaCroque! I guess he might be changing his name now to something more..well...English!!

Please tell JoeAnn that our thoughts are with her..I'm so sorry to hear about the discs..but at least NOW they can do something to help her, (the poor dear!). I'm with you, not sure I could have been so restrained..but I guess it wouldn't do a lot of good to have let it out..

gaigai 06-29-2010 09:08 PM

Patti, I am SO sorry I forgot to tell you Happy Birthday on the right day. And I have it right here on a sticky note on my computer too! A very, very apologetic but enthusiastic
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR PATTI, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!
AND MANY MORE!!!

OK, well, I know this is round 4, and these are round 3 photos, but I didn't want them to get lost. Here is Esqmommy's center. I was waffling about whether to make HST's to pull the center design out, so went down to the LQS for a consult. LOL. It was pretty unanimous that what was needed at this point was something simple. Mom had found this fabric at Hobby Lobby and it matched the floral in the geese perfectly. The center floral is lilies, but it is REALLY close to them too. So I put just a plain border on, and I really like the effect. I don't think the colors show too well, but it's overcast today with rain. I hope you like it Esq. It's going to come to you for you to arrange the last round, since JoeAnn had to drop out due to health issues.

P.S. After the sunflowers, this went on so fast my head was spinning! LOL. What a difference!

Butterflyspain 06-30-2010 12:09 PM

I Love, love, love it. Its beautiful she will be so happy with that one Gai

Elle

gaigai 06-30-2010 12:14 PM

Thanks Elle. It really looks so much better in person. I don't think the photos show it well. But I'm happy with it. And Mom wants to keep this one too!! LOL This one was such a breeze after the sunflowers. The hardest part (and it's not hard) was mitering the corners! :P

P.S. You can't see it in the photo, but there was a teeny difference in the blacks in the background of the florals, and Mel's black. So I have a quarter-inch of a green that matches Patti's applique in between. Remind me NEVER to do another quarter inch sashing!!

Butterflyspain 06-30-2010 12:26 PM

Hmmm yes. Gai.......never ever, ever do a 1/4" sashing, Thats an order LOL

sandpat 06-30-2010 05:07 PM

Oh my!!!!  I'm really   Gai...the LQS was right, this was the exact right decision in MHO...if Rachel doesn't like it...well...you know what can happen to it!!   NOooooooo...not your MOM!!! My addy is....

And thank you for the B-day wishes...it was lovely, I'm still celebrating..so your wishes weren't even late!

Butterflyspain 06-30-2010 10:49 PM

Okay Patti, just for you lol

Esqmommy 07-01-2010 05:35 AM

Wow Gai, I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You did perfect, perfect perfect - nice job. The fabric is spot on, and your little 1/4 inch is terrifical!!! I'm excited, can't wait to get her back!! thank you so much!

bearisgray 07-04-2010 09:48 PM

Those are awesome!

kim_s 07-04-2010 10:02 PM

Wow, they are all beautiful quilts!

k3n 07-14-2010 03:12 AM

Hello everyone! I'm in England and reconnected at last! Firstly, Gai thank you so much for what you've done to my centre it is absolutely stunningly gorgeous, I really love it! :-D And I love what you did to Rach's too, the skinny is perfect and you should do more of them.

Patti, so sorry I missed your birthday, it's written on my calendar which is hanging on the kitchen wall in the house in France! Ooops! Anyway hope it was a good 'un and much merry making was committed! Oh see how quaint and British I'm speaking now?

Update on the takeaway situation for anyone whose interested - we can have pizza and kebabs delivered but for Chinese, Thai, Indian and fish and chips, burgers etc, we have to drive 2 miles into town to pick it up! What a drag! And my new oven hasn't arrived yet so it's take aways or microwave at the moment, plus we invested in a gas bbq so burgers, sausages, steaks and salad as well! So we won't starve! In fact, I may phone the oven suppliers and cancel the order! Kidding!

rootyr 07-14-2010 03:37 AM

OMGosh, they are awesome!!!

sandpat 07-14-2010 06:46 AM

K...soooo glad you are back! We missed ya' around here...now..fire up that grill and pass me a few burgers will ya!

Baren*eh*ked_canadian 07-14-2010 07:19 AM

Ok, now I want a hamburger....

Esqmommy 07-18-2010 09:59 AM

I have FINALLY opened up my completed top...it's not getting the last round, but that's fine because it's BEAUTIFUL!!! Each and every one of you did such a fantastic job.

I know I've been MIA, and probably will be for a bit more..things are just darn hard for me right now, BUT....I am so totally blown away by the beautiful detail and careful thought put into the various designs and fabric choices.
Each of you made such a wonderful contribution and I'll treasure it forever!

{{{{{{{Oh Mel}}}}}}}} I finally got my tomato juice done and got to finish this up today. I really really really want to keep it though...I'll have to think hard about giving it up. Mel, you just let me know if you don't like it and I'll just give it a new home here...

Mel's finished and going home to Mama!

sandpat 07-21-2010 06:49 PM

Ladies...I'm doing something a little different for the last/final round on each quilt. Would you please post them in your normal "group" thread so we can all ooohhh and awwww over them...but also could you please post them here http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-54909-1.htm.

I'm trying to have a thread with JUST the quilt pics on it....not page after page of chatter...but would love to have a thread where everyone can see all the quilts without giving up looking due to the comments.

Group Point people...can you help me make sure they get posted on the "finished" thread...If I see one on a thread finished, I'll try to round them up to post, but I might miss one..so thanks. The thread IS in the virtual section.

mamabird3 07-21-2010 11:39 PM

WOW-ZA!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mels quilt is amazing!! I love it!!!

k3n 07-22-2010 12:56 AM

Great job on Mel's Patti! BTW, Hans is concerned about your avatar cats, he thinks they've been restrained against their will, poor kitties! I said it's probably Photo Shop but he won't have it!

Baren*eh*ked_canadian 07-22-2010 12:56 AM
