Oh, it's on it's way! Woo hoo!

Well, I have cut off points, plenty, in my quilting life. However, I would not have cut them off for this baby! On the other center, my circle doesn't line up so well, but I figured that would create less pressure to the next set of rounds. I think if you get a "perfect" piece, and it's a hard one (curves, complex design, etc) then it's uber-intimidating!!

How ya likin your EQ6??

Le (or should it be La?) Rooster has LANDED! Boy oh boy...he is amazingly better looking in person than on here and he looks pretty darned good here! Now....what to do...what to do.....I know...he has to crow for me a few times

Oh...and can I use a black pen for the label or should I hunt down a brown one?

You can use a pen that's sky blue pink with yellow dots if you like, Patti! :D

And FYI it's le rooster, or correctly, 'le coq'.

Esqmommy 10-16-2009 07:08 AM

k3n 10-16-2009 07:32 AM

JoAnn's centre is beautiful Gai, how about a needle turn appliqué border? You've mastered fusible so onwards and upwards...

Patti - when Monsieur le Coq DOES speak to you, I hope it's not in French.

K, I'm leaving that for you to do!!

Moncia 10-16-2009 10:43 AM

I would like so to know to create these blocks! I congratulate.

sandpat 10-16-2009 05:49 PM

Keep watching Monica....if we can do it, you can do it too!!!

And K...so Monsieur LeCoque will probably speak something I can't understand...you know I'm only fluent in English, Redneck and Ebonics!!!

Esqmommy 10-17-2009 06:33 PM

Hey Gai, did you wash your fabrics first? Do you want me to wash the fabric I'm using before I sew it on?

I'm also wondering...do you want to be surprised, or can I talk to you about my thoughts. I'm really afraid of ruining your quilt by making it too busy. I chose some fabrics and thought about doing a very simple border so as to give more definition between this layer and the next. But, it's not going to be anything "fabulous" from me, but I think it will help keep the special center to stand out...do you know what I'm saying? I can post photos of what I'm planning, and you can say "ya" or "na", or I can just do what I'm doing and ... well, you know what I'm saying. I've never done a RR before, so I'm wanting to do the right thing...

barnbum 10-17-2009 06:36 PM

Man, oh, man... I'm glad all I have to do is look at them! :D

gaigai 10-17-2009 08:51 PM

Hiya Esq! Like I said to you before, I have absolute confidence in you!! I know that I will love whatever you do. This is my first IRR too, so between the two of us it's the blind leading the blind. :?:

I do think that sometimes less is more. If what you see/envision is a simple border, go for it. I've gone back and looked at the previous IRR photos and some of the borders are very plain, but it's these plain borders that seem to make the others pop. I am going to make a fairly plain border for JoeAnn's quilt. Right now I have some pretty brown (with sparkles. You can tell I like sparkles!) and I'm thinking of just that with maybe two or three squares in a square of complimentary colors in the middle of each side. I'll play and then decide.

So, kiddo, go for it, either way. I promise you I will love whatever you do. There is no "ruining" talk allowed! :P :P

Well, ms. barnbum, enjoy it now, 'cause I'm gonna nag you into joining the next one! You have a year to pick out your big girl IRR panties!

sandpat 10-18-2009 05:21 AM

Hey ya'll....remember that sometimes Less really IS more....maybe ya'll didn't learn that as its an architectural/interior design thing....but I'll introduce it to you here.

Especially at this stage with the borders being so small...sometimes a plain border in the perfect fabric is all that is required. Sometimes you can do a very simple piecing pattern....especially if the owner of the center already put a "framing" border around her center. As the tops grow...they do seem to speak to us a little louder about what they need. Remember that allowing for fabulous areas to quilt the finished product will make the piece spectacular!

And....nobody in this group has the potential to "ruin" anything!!! Way too much talent for that!....(with 1 exception who will hide behind this post)

sandpat 10-18-2009 05:33 AM

Oh...and I forgot to mention..discussing of what we are going to do is just fine! These are more "collaborative quilts" than surprize quilts. In the last one...if you were quilt blocked so to speak...sometimes we would email back and forth, sometimes audition ideas on the thread. It seems that the idea time frame gets discussion...then as the idea formulates and gets finalized...the person just runs with it and then posts a pic of what they end up doing....make sense? And...there aren't really any "rules" about it...so we can do whatever we want to

Esqmommy 10-18-2009 07:39 AM

What a relief. i saw some of the quits, and it appears that there is usually, aside from the center, only room for one or two "spectacualar" borders...the rest have their place, and are needed to stay calm and simple, but I know for my own sake, I want to do right by the quilt. My ego would rather put on the "amazing" border, but when it's not right, it's just not right!! Thanks for the insight Patti and Gai...very helpful.

Trust me, Esq, you WILL get the chance to put on the "amazing" border!!! :P :P :P

sandpat 10-18-2009 04:13 PM

Everyone will know exactly what to do at the exact right time

Esqmommy 10-19-2009 06:01 AM

Well, I got about 1/2 of it done last night and I think it looks pretty good, IMHO!!! I will probably be able to comlete it in the next few days. I spent a good hour on Saturday at my LQS, with my daughter getting very impatient at the end. But, found fabrics that blend nicely with the pinks and greens in the center. The green surrounding the basked is an unusual shade and lots of fabrics, when placed against it, failed miserably. I found one that was a nice fit, so went with that...It's up on the wall, I'm tempted to take a photo, but think I'll wait until it's done. Are we going to post photos along the way, or will it be a secret suprise for the owner of the top?

sandpat 10-19-2009 06:17 AM

Oh post...post...you know we can't wait! of course I'm meaning when you have finished with your border.....

Patti mentioned "collaborative" quilting on this quilt and she is right - when she was adding the border to my center last time, we "spoke" a few times about how to do the design of it and what I would like to see. She had ideas, I had ideas, and they came together perfectly - at least that's what the pictures tell me, I am waiting as we speak for the mailman (yes, he's a guy) to bring my quilt to me from Europa!

Esqmommy 10-19-2009 06:02 PM

Okau, here goes. It's nerveracking cuz I can see your face...the fabrics are actually much prettier in person. They are asian, so the sparkle continues out in the quilt! I hope you like it, tried to keep it simple.

cutebuns 10-19-2009 06:52 PM

I love it!!!!!!!!!

(I hope I paused long enough for Gai to get in here first! :D )

gaigai 10-19-2009 06:52 PM

Oh Esq, I don't like it.

I LOVE it!!! :P :P :P

It's beautiful! And I think that mine is the very first one to be posted! Aren't you clever and fast!

Esqmommy 10-19-2009 06:53 PM

cutebuns 10-19-2009 06:55 PM
