Here's a picture of a quilt for a customer that wanted bluejeans and homespuns for a gift for her son. What do you think? (note sarcasm)

Dancing Needle 04-23-2010 11:59 AM

I like it! Very masculine. Nice job!!

alaskasunshine 04-23-2010 11:59 AM

It sure looks warm and cozy to me! She is gonna love it!

cjomomma 04-23-2010 12:01 PM

I think this is one of the best jean quilts I have ever seen and yes it is very masculin.

sylvia77 04-23-2010 12:12 PM

Thanks for the compliments. I personally think it's a little on the ugly side.

pollyjvan9 04-23-2010 12:20 PM

Remember, the customer is always right. I personally like it and think my 20 something grandsons would like it also.

Charlee 04-23-2010 12:20 PM

I decided long ago, that when it comes to handmade items, there is no such thing as "ugly"!! It may not be to my taste, but the dedication that it takes to produce a quilt makes it special, no matter what!
And actually...I like this one! :)

NorBanaquilts 04-23-2010 12:32 PM

I think it's awesome for a guy.

sharon b 04-23-2010 12:45 PM

I like it and even better for a guy

laceybritt 04-23-2010 12:55 PM

I like it and I agree it is perfect for a guy!!!!

CarrieAnne 04-23-2010 01:00 PM

Perfect for a guy, and I bet its SUPER WARM!

dsb38327 04-23-2010 01:02 PM

So creative. I wouldn't have had an idea of what to do with the fabrics. You did great. I believe her son will enjoy it very much.

Sheila Elaine 04-23-2010 01:26 PM

It looks so warm & comfy & the recipient will love it. Is it very heavy (I bet it is). How hard was it to sew all the denim?

kso 04-23-2010 01:45 PM

Some boy will love it! Gives me another idea for a rag quilt....

Gal 04-23-2010 02:09 PM

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I love this quilt, just my taste and style, everyone to their own Sylvia 77, I have enjoyed seeing this and thankyou for sharing, you made a beautiful quilt in my eyes!

My boys love denim quilts. They are HEAVY. I think I'll try this one. With 5 boys, I'm always looking for new ideas. At least they save me their jeans!

jljack 04-23-2010 03:27 PM

Personally I think it's a little drab, but if that's what she wanted, then I think it looks great.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder.-----sorry, i see someone already said that.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 04-23-2010 04:56 PM

The customer is always right and you gave her what she wanted. I'm just not too sure why she would waste your talents like that.

franie 04-23-2010 04:59 PM

Not sure I want to comment on that one. not my cup of tea...

wvdek 04-23-2010 05:02 PM

The young man will love it I'm sure.

sewjean 04-23-2010 05:02 PM

Maybe if it had different color flannel it would be more alive! But I bet a guy would like it! LOL

STEMSAM 04-23-2010 08:51 PM

Very nice.

Toto's Mom 04-23-2010 09:54 PM

Frankly, I'm with you on this one, but then, I have two teenage grandsons who could turn a silk purse into a sow's ear in a heartbeat, so maybe this is perfect for a teen boy's quilt. It won't show dirt and it should hold up to abuse.
You didn't say how old this woman's son is, so maybe his taste will be a bit more refined as he ages, and you can do one more fitted to your talents.

Gramof6 04-23-2010 11:11 PM

It is def. a guy quilt. Meaning masculine looking. And it does look warm. If the Customer is happy & thinks her Son will be happy with it, that is what counts. I'm sure it was made with a lot of love.

quiltluvr 04-24-2010 12:11 AM

It's wonderful that we ALL have DIFFERENT tastes. Frankly, the world would be a drag if we all liked the same thing and thought the same way now wouldn't it?

I'm not trying to be mean and sorry this may sound that way but this was made for someone else who wanted it that way and will LOVE it that way. Let's be happy for them that they got something they wanted and will treasure.

(P.S. My 23 yr. old son picked a store bought "designer" name comforter that mirrors that look. Knowing his preferences I just can't imagine him with something different. He's happy and that's all that matters.)

Honestly, I meant no offense to anyone.

sylvia77 04-24-2010 06:56 AM

It wasn't too hard to sew as I used a denim needle and pressed all seams open. Also starching the homespuns cut down on the stretchiness. Quilting was hard though.

Bobbielinks 04-24-2010 07:00 AM

Great quilt for a guy! I can also see this quilt going fishing or to picnics.

1quilt_gma 04-24-2010 07:08 AM

I am slowly working on a crazy quilt for my DH, and think denim is so right for a guy, no matter what their age.

Looks good!

littlehud 04-24-2010 07:28 AM

You know, I think it's cool. It's a guys quilt. I love the homespun with the denim. Perfect. You did a great job on it. I bet he loves it.

sylvia77 04-24-2010 02:31 PM

Well, she came & picked up the quilt and she liked it. Her son will be 50 on his birthday and she saved his jeans for 27 years! Thanks to all of you for your honesty and compliments. The quilt wasn't all that heavy considering.

damaquilts 04-25-2010 05:17 AM

I think it is great for a boy. Great job

CraftsByRobin 04-25-2010 07:56 AM

Totally cool ...

Tally Kathy 04-25-2010 10:30 AM

It wold look cute in a bedroom with rustic furniture or a Western motif...

sylvia77 04-25-2010 10:56 AM

The woman who had me make this quilt did so only because her eyesight is so bad. She couldn't hardly see to sign the check she gave me, bless her heart. Maybe that's why she like it, she couldn't see it!

quiltluvr 04-25-2010 12:46 PM

No, not worth it.

sylvia77 04-25-2010 04:22 PM

Quiltluvr, What do you mean it's not worth it?

Sheree from Chicago 04-25-2010 07:40 PM

Yuk!!

GladGrams 04-25-2010 10:50 PM

Looks like a perfect college dorm quilt for a guy!

zz-pd 04-25-2010 11:24 PM
