I hated to throw away my old cutting mat, and I have been wanting a design wall. I glued some batting on it and it works. Not fancy, but who cares. I can even hang it up.

Well, that's a brilliant idea, thanks for sharing. It's do-able, even for me! I have an old mat under the bed.

I've cut my old mats into smaller pcs, a small x 6 and a 12 x 12 this way I hae a smaller size by the machine and stuff. also used it for papercrafting/scrapbooking

Great idea. I bought a mat just like this at an estate sale. I didn't need another but couldn't pass it up b/c it was only a dollar (brand new). Now I can put it (or the original one) to use. Thank you!

Great idea for repurposing an old mat. I picked up some big decorative all hooks at the thrift store yesterday. Now I have a use for them! Thanks for the idea.

I like your idea and also the use of the black office clips to hold your batting to it. I also like the idea of cutting it down if it is possible, the small mats still cost quite a bit to buy, and as long as it works like by your sewing machine or somewhere, it sounds winning to me. :-) Thanks for posting the idea.
