I've learned so much...

This is the first quilt I ever pieced. I started it several years ago and due to one issue after another never finished it. This weekend I pulled it out and decided wonky or not, points or no points I was going to quilt it and it would be done. Most of the points disappear into the seams, as I tried to machine quilt I realized how wavy it is throughout. But it is finally done. To be honest, I actually like it flaws and all. I can just picture taking my granddaughter to the park and spreading this out for a picnic. This quilt was before I had ever heard of scant 1/4 seam and all the pieces were cut with a scissors, not a rotary cutter.

it turned out beautifully! great that you pulled it out and decided to finish it-
you know---the (little things) that you think are wrong---are really seldom apparent to anyone else- no one knows you did not mean for something to be exactly like it is- so don't beat yourself up- it is a beautiful quilt and a very good job done! :)

It's very cute. I like the pattern and the colors. Good for you for finishing it. Do you remember the name of the pattern?

cowpie2 01-15-2012 01:03 PM

The pattern is Starring Poppies from McCalls Quilting book "Color me Happy".

Looks great!!! Aren't you glad that you got it done!!!!

debcavan 01-15-2012 01:55 PM

Nothing like picking a super hard pattern for a first quilt. And scissors cut. It turned out beautifully. We learn from every quilt even after the first 100. I'm so glad you finished.

There are no mistakes - they're creative touches. I love the color scheme you chose way back when and it's still great today! Thanks for sharing.

What a lovely quilt. There are not mistakes only I meant to do thats. That is my story and I stick by it.

mcar 01-16-2012 05:34 AM

You were really brave to begin this quilt years ago. The design is a definite challenge. I hope your bravery carries you forward into many new designs. Enjoy your work. We all learn so much with each quilt we work on....or else if we don't challenge ourselves, we get bored. But you know, you can now and then, choose an easy design to ease up.

littlesurfer 01-16-2012 05:41 AM

Congrats on finishing the quilt...it's lovely.

ralice 01-16-2012 07:08 AM

It a beautiful quilt! I love it, & a difficult one for a 1st one! When I sew with my grandchildren, I tell them that all those little things which scream at those of us who made the object are just little signatures! As the years go by, we realize how much we have learned! It is wonderful!!!!

Tweety2911 01-16-2012 07:12 AM

You did a great job! I love the fabrics used. Much too nice to lay on the ground. Snuggle up with this cozy beauty in your home.

ruthrings 01-16-2012 07:20 AM

Fabulous! I think you should rename it as a new pattern, a new technique with no points, and we would all think, "That looks really cool! I think I'll try that!" You could even do a tutorial on how to cut off the points!! lol I really like the effect!

craftiladi 01-16-2012 07:23 AM

CP....I commend you for getting pass " it has to be perfect" that is a huge issue for and you did a AWESOME JOB!!!! I love it...congrats!!!!
