Well I have been plodding along first of all sewing by hand 9 blocks and today I tried it on the machine and did 3 more blocks. The whole quilt is PP and wasnt easy to get the hang of´hence doing by hand first.

I am liking the layout so far, but have 18 more blocks to do and then the border is totally PP as well, great project for the winter though.

Beautiful Elle! Have you decided which you like better - hand or machine for these? I love paper-piecing for it's nice, sharp points!

Nice pointy points, Elle, and I love your choice of fabrics. Don't use up all your blue ones, as you will need some for my IRR quilt!

OMG! That's gorgeous! I can't wait to see the entire quilt, a lot of work!

I am sure you could do this. It took me a little while to grasp what was needed as it looks quite complex till you get into it. Thats why I did the first lot by hand.

I've seen that pattern many times, and each time it has intimidated me. Yours, of course, looks perfect.

Yep she is an English lady, living in France with an American accent, with a hint of Dutch. But I hasten to add lovely with it. :D

Ducky, I think you should give it a try, if you have PP before then when once you put all the patterns in separate little bags You will be surprised how it all clicks into place. Did you have a look at her site, she has some gorgeous ones on there and also have a look at the people who have made her patterns up, Its on Quiltworx.com

Excellent. Very interesting pattern and colors are so beautiful! The work involved... wow. Eager to see the border, you make it sound just as wonderful.

Good luck, but I hope it doesn't take the whole winter... I don't think I can wait that long to see it!

You never go for the harder patterns do you Elle??? I've seen that one and been scared away! You are doing a fabulous job with it...but you are PP by hand? I love how you are using the "japanese fabs" for the Japanese Fans! How cute are you??

RedGarnet222 09-18-2009 06:59 AM

Wow Elle! This is really going to be stunning when it is finished. You are one talented lady.

Thought you might, but then you would be capturing most of those gorgeous fabrics you sent to me for which I am forever grateful.

I have decided that its a bit on the bright side and am going to calm it down with some of the paler fabrics, I keep swapping the fans around and you would be amazed at the different looks this quilt gets.

GRIN, yes you see I have to keep those old wheels in my brain well oiled or they just might seize up. Just ordered 2 more and got a 3rd free on Jenny Neiymeyer´s site. She has a special promo going on at the moment.

I am doing some by hand, now its just the odd one at night but since I have become more aware of the pattern I am doing them on the machine so it should grow a bit quicker now.

The fabrics are just beautiful to work with all the gold in the fabrics are so pretty.

Thanks Gaigai, it might be a while, think around 2 months for the centre and then I can start the border, thats all PP as well and quite complex looking, did you see the pattern that I took a photograph off and posted on this thread.
