Jazz Cats quilt

1 Attachment(s)
I just finished the top of a Jazz Cats quilt. The pattern can be found in The Cat's Meow, a book of many cat quilts by Janet Kime.

I am pleased with the way it turned out...which is nice, because it is for me. :)

My eyes didn't enjoy doing the black background, so this may be my one and only try at a black background. I just can't see well enough sewing black on black...

Thanks for looking. (The fabrics are brighter than they appear in the picture.)

You did a great job. Black is horrible to work with, in my opinion.

Enjoy your new cat quilt - great colors!
I agree about working with a lot of black.

Such a fun quilt! I really love the richness of a quilt with a black background. I hate to work with black (but have) especially in the evening when I am trying to hand stitch a black binding with black thread. I read where they said to have a white sheet over your work surface to help.... I tried it, but didn't find it significantly different.

geevee 08-20-2017 05:23 PM

Love the colors! I've never worked with a black background, and probably never will, my eyes would never forgive me.

wesing 08-20-2017 05:45 PM

It looks fantastic! I like the purple border too!

sinceresissy 08-21-2017 02:32 AM

I like your kitty quilt. The black background makes it but I know what you mean about sewing on black. It is hard to see what you are doing.

BETTY62 08-21-2017 02:49 AM

What a happy quilt. I love it.

SusieQOH 08-21-2017 02:55 AM

I've noticed black is hard to work with. My Mom used to tell me that and I thought she was being dramatic!!!

Your quilt is fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lots2do 08-21-2017 04:18 AM

It's no nice to see it completed. You should be very pleased with it - for your perseverance and for your final product. I do like the purple border a lot now. It really pulls the other purples out and unifies it. So glad you're keeping it.

flikkem 08-21-2017 04:30 AM

You chose one of my favorite patterns. I made this quilt also and could not part with it. Good job!

twinkie 08-21-2017 04:44 AM

I love it on the black background.

tessagin 08-21-2017 04:55 AM

Love your quilt and how at random you intertwined the cat tails.

luvstoquilt 08-21-2017 05:21 AM

I made that a few years ago for my DGD but used a light background. I love yours but I don't like to work with black for 2 reasons. 1. Hurts my eyes 2. My cat is light colored and his fur would show up on it no matter how hard I tried to keep it clean! Lol

rryder 08-21-2017 05:48 AM

I love the way the cats pop on the black! I know what you mean about how hard it is to see when working with black, but I think the aggravation is worth it as shown by your project. Excellent job!

Love your quilt, so lovely and bright and the Black makes it pop.

ekuw 08-21-2017 08:36 AM

Your're right about working with a black background. As a quilter, you just see a pattern and think, oh that looks great, then when you start working on it you realize...is it just me or is it hard to see where this black fabric matches up? At any rate, you quilt is super cute and perfect for cat lovers! Great job!

midwife 08-21-2017 08:52 AM

That is really nice.

is

I researched this pattern when I was deciding on a background color, and I found our posting about your quilt here on the QB. You made sure each cat had some pink, right? Your quilt is beautiful, and I came very close to doing a white background. But I bravely dove in. :) No regrets, but I wouldn't do it again.
