That is sooo pretty!

Linny 08-13-2018 05:14 AM

Beautiful rug. I’ve always read it is not easy to keep them flat when making one. Are there any tips you could give on this? I would love to make one. You did such a nice job.

annievee 08-13-2018 06:33 AM

Such a great job, good work

Mariposa 08-13-2018 07:11 AM

Nicely done!

sue.ross.8782 08-13-2018 07:54 AM

Very cool. Where will you use it? When I was a little girl, my family (New Englanders) had these rugs in their homes. I'm waxing nostalgic now from your work.

Tartan 08-13-2018 08:42 AM

Lovely rug!

ArtsyOne 08-13-2018 09:28 AM

I love your color combination! Puts a modern twist on an heirloom rug.

Thanks all!

Tips...sew on a flat, flush with the machine surface . I used a stiletto to ease the outer strip as I sewed around the curves on each end. By the time I had sewn about 6-7 complete rounds it got easier. Steam ironing heps.

there is a great video that offers tips to make this rug. On You Tube...Jordan Quilts Jelly Roll Rug..... About 20 minutes long. I watched it twice.

pretty easy project. Have fun!

Jingle 08-13-2018 02:59 PM

Very nice and useful rug.

wesing 08-13-2018 05:44 PM

Your rug is very nice.

I've seen videos of these and they do look fun. I may have to try one someday...

Jane Quilter 08-13-2018 07:47 PM

wow....that is a beauty.

jmoore 08-14-2018 02:42 AM

Sandy, thank you for the information and your rug is beautiful. A jelly roll rug is on my list of things to try...

Lena1952 08-14-2018 03:05 AM

Anyone have ideas on how to obtain a flat surface when sewing in a class? Machines are on a table and was wondering if a box taped to the table would work.

Quiltngolfer 08-14-2018 03:41 AM

It’s beautiful! I can’t wait to try one.

Little Lulu 08-14-2018 04:46 AM

Sandygirl, Can you give us the web address for the You Tube. I typed in Jordan Quilts Jelly Roll, and it gave me quite a few you tube videos. Thanks.

SusieQOH 08-14-2018 05:10 AM

Oh that's pretty!!!

thank you! I have not decided where to use it. Likely my sewing room or the adjacent guest room IF I can find the floor in there! LOL!!

thanks for sharing your memories!

Thank you! This is a fabric line called Melbourne from Contempo (a Benartex division) It came out 3 years ago. I fell in love with this Australian fabric group and had to buy the strips. I love the rug and now wish I had purchased more of the yardage.

Thanks so much for the link - after watching it I feel confident that I can make one too and I'm already thinking about who is going to get one for a christmas gift.

Nice jelly roll rug!

madamekelly 08-14-2018 01:44 PM

I noticed you have hardwood floors. They do make a paint on skid-grip for the back so it will not cause an accident. I usually just paint a 3-4” border on them so they could still be laundered. I think I got mine at
Hobby Lobby....

Stitchnripper 08-14-2018 01:55 PM

That is a beautiful rug! It's on my list.

SusieQOH 08-14-2018 02:37 PM

Sandygirl, Is it heavy? I just finished one that is rectangular and it's really heavy. But maybe that's a good thing.
I need to finish one side of the binding and then it will be completely done. Only the 2 short sides had to be bound.
I also found that it was much easier than I anticipated.
I love how yours turned out!

retiredteacher09 08-14-2018 03:23 PM

Very nice! I like the colors!

ccthomas 08-14-2018 05:26 PM

Actually, my kitchen floor is sheet vinyl! People think it is hardwood. Love my floor...easy to clean and wipe up spills. ; D

thanks for the skid-grip info ...never knew that was available. Might explore that for the bathroom rug that I might make.
