Jelly roll style quilt with "modern" quilting.

1 Attachment(s)
I finished this one last week. I decided to try "modern" style quilting. You can laugh...I used polyester batting, so it should be fine even though there are large unquilted areas. :)

I was being a bit facetious when I did this, because some of the modern quilt tops look so "awful" to me--like things just thrown together--

But in the end, it's okay...I don't mind the look of this and it was definitely "different".

This is my nr. 98 finished quilt for the year.

Different style of quilting but I like the look.

Your quilt is very nice! #98 !!!!! Woooooooahhhh!

Baloonatic 12-01-2013 06:54 AM

I really like it!

mom-6 12-01-2013 06:56 AM

Your use of shorter strips of the jelly roll and the "wonky" quilting really give nice interest to your quilt. Good job!

AngeliaNR 12-01-2013 08:25 AM

I like the quilting--it adds interest to the jelly roll quilt--as wildly different as the fabrics can be in a JRQ, to me, they all look more alike than different--the quilting makes this one stand out from the crowd! Nice work.

Sandygirl 12-01-2013 08:54 AM

Works for me!! Love the quilting....I need to do that!

lynnie 12-01-2013 09:16 AM

now that's my type of quilting. I love the finished product

ArtsyOne 12-01-2013 09:19 AM

I like the quilting - I may use this style for some small jelly roll baby quilts that I give to charity.

QuiltnNan 12-01-2013 09:29 AM

nicely done

I agree. I was a bit bored with the jelly roll look as I had several to quilt....that's why I decided to do this one this way.

GKSM 12-01-2013 09:38 AM

98 - wow!! This was is different but really nice.

joy 12-01-2013 09:41 AM

I love the quilting on it... certainly stands out... and suits the pattern... what a great idea... mind if I copy? I don't quilt as I find it too hard but could cope with that... well done.....

oksewglad 12-01-2013 09:58 AM

Great way to look beyond a common technique.

wolph33 12-01-2013 09:59 AM

very different and beautiful.

adnil458 12-01-2013 10:23 AM

I think it looks terrific !!!!

GailG 12-01-2013 10:27 AM

I really like it! Adds interest to the horizontal arrangement of the jellies. I definitely will try this technique.

malega 12-01-2013 01:18 PM

That is very nice.

Annz 12-01-2013 01:20 PM

It's diffrent and I like the border fabric choice.

Mdaniels 12-01-2013 01:51 PM

I like this a lot!

OK...it is jelly roll style, but not a jelly roll quilt. I pulled them out of 2.5" strips bags--just color coordinated them into browns/greens, purple/pinks, etc. (I did several of them). That is why there are all sorts of lengths of the strips. It's really a scrappy, but jelly roll style.

gabeway 12-02-2013 05:27 AM

Looks great

Jingle 12-02-2013 11:04 AM

I think the quilting improves the design.

PolkaBabe 12-02-2013 12:57 PM

It turned out beautiful. I also love the quilting.

djmat 12-02-2013 02:20 PM

You are an artist, wonderful quilt!

coopah 12-03-2013 05:49 AM

Different, but maybe you'll start a new trend. I agree with you about some of the modern quilts. :-) 98 done this year? Oh, my. That's quite an accomplishment!

twinkie 12-03-2013 06:09 AM

I love the wonky quilting.

cpcarolyn 12-03-2013 07:04 AM

Very nice quilt.

DJ 12-03-2013 07:20 AM

From the comments, it sounds like you're starting something new! I love it too and would be interested in trying it.

sparkys_mom 12-03-2013 07:21 AM

I really like your 'jelly roll style' quilt and I usually don't care much for jelly roll quilts. Having the different lengths of strips goes a long way towards making it interesting. Now, this is funny (at least to me) because I normally really like modern quilts but I don't care for the 'fractured' quilting. I tried it once and hated the result. I like yours better than mine, but am still not crazy for that style of quilting. Here's mine - you be the judge. :D http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...e-t219337.html

nwm50 12-03-2013 07:25 AM

Hey.. I think it's great!

Nope. I like yours better...probably is where I got the idea.

But the comment about the modern quilt wasn't referring to yours.

I was referring to an unnamed blog where the lady put a picture up-- that looked like my quilt backs--just pieces put together--no order, etc. (at least it didn't look like it to me--literally, it looked like my backs where I just keep sewing pieces together til I get it big enough to make a charity quilt back...)

mjhaess 12-03-2013 10:12 AM

Very nice...Great colors..

Yes, I've seen some of those. They look like they SHOULD be quilt backs but they aren't. Very unfortunate. :D

QUILTNMO 12-03-2013 10:32 AM

very nice!!!!

Mariposa 12-03-2013 10:41 AM

#98-? You go girl!! :)

trolleystation 12-03-2013 10:46 AM

Geometric quilting was just right for your quilt.

matraina 12-03-2013 11:27 AM

I like it!!!!!!!!!!

madamekelly 12-03-2013 11:37 AM

You have given me an idea for my jelly roll race quilt that I have planned. I was avoiding making it because I could not decide how to quilt it. I will not copy your idea, but it gave me my own idea. Yours is beautiful.
