Thank you and yes I designed these.
The lady bugs are free hand but the bird (body) is from the pattern Swirly Bird by Linda M. Poole,
then I added the tail feathers. I had used the bird once before in another appliqued quilt and really liked it.

4 quilts out of 1 roll. Can't beat that. They're precious.

The jelly roll had 2 colorway colors (pink & blue) I separated them and was going to make one in the pink and one in the blue. When I got to the point when I had a long narrow looking quilt I decided to divide it in half to make baby sized quilts. So I found center and took out that row of stitching. Not the best method...but none of this went as planned anyway :)

I have 4" borders added on them now and them measure approx. 34x40

Turned out great. Thanks for sharing.

Good Morning Lady T,

I had to sign-in just to tell you that I love your idea! Those quilts are adorable! And,yes, sometimes the jelly roll quilts are missing something....I think you have found a good solution.

Lady-T 05-18-2013 07:09 AM

Thank you all for the kind words. And I want to say to those of you that have made the jelly roll quilts, I have NOT seen one I didn't like! In fact, that's what made me want to make one so much.
I think perhaps it was my fabric choice that made it look blah to me ? I don't know.
But you ladies all made great choices with yours!

So now I am working on the blue colorway now and will post pictures when complete.
What started out as .....well, b-o-r-i-n-g.... has really turned into fun! :)

pugmom 05-18-2013 03:37 PM

Do you think if you did the quilt with ten strips that would end up being baby quilt size? I say ten as that would be 1/4 of a 40 strip jelky roll.

JuneBillie 05-18-2013 04:04 PM

I just love them.

MacThayer 05-18-2013 04:45 PM

Gorgeous Quilt! Applique is a very nice touch, on a lovely background.

I too tried the "Jelly Roll Quilt", and managed to make it all the way through. Nice result, I thought, until I washed it in warm water and put it through the dryer on delicate. One of the colors bled everywhere, and it shrank in odd ways so I had a quilt top that would not lie flat. Very frustrating. I made it into a blanket and gave it to the dogs. Since then, I wash ALL precuts, which is a pain, but can be done. Gentle soak in soapy water, followed by gentle soak in clear water, until all soap is gone. Then I put them through a salad spinner to get out the extra water, which works well. Then into a large lingerie bag and the dryer on "delicate" (lowest setting on my dryer). As soon as they slightly damp, I spray starch them and press (not iron). A lot of work, yes, but my next quilt with precuts came out beautifully! Did have to modify the pattern slightly, as most of the 2 1/2" strips were no longer 2 1/2" wide!

I'm getting very good a cutting 2 1/2" strips from pre-washed fabric, and like that better than jelly rolls, although you just can't beat the variety of coordinated colors and prints in a jelly roll. So sometimes I wash as well! LOL!
