Jeweled Forest Update 11-19 Saturday

These are paper pieced as everyone knows. This is my first time and I may never go back to regular piecing. OK I will get real - I love PP but I also love regular piecing too. Learning was easy and somewhere along about the 12th little tree it all clicked and I never had to pick out another mistake. Everything looks so accurate (I don't know they are) but they look perfect. They also look complicated but they are not. I expanded and will be finishing it out as a large couch throw for snuggling under this winter. This is one of those things where I think you can make 'too many' of a good thing. I thought about an entire quilt but I decided against it. Anyway - this is where I am at today. I will added some small borders I think. I did some flying geese to add to the outside border but they just took away from my little trees. Opinions are very much welcome. . . . . . .

Your trees are beautiful. Waiting for the pattern. Hope mine look half as nice.
Nothing beats paper piecing for precision. Nothing. For those of us challenged by the 1/4 scant seam, paper piecing is a godsend. For blocks with many pieces or sharp angles, I try to find a way to draw it for paper piecing. |
Really nice. The blue makes your blocks pop.
Very pretty. I love all the different colors in the trees.
easy uh??? hmmm !!!! It looks beautiful and it looks NOT so easy hehehehe
VERY pretty! I REALLY love all the different colors! :) :)
These are really beautiful trees.
Lovely, can't wait to see the border.
Very cute and they do look perfect. Great job.
WOW you've been busy - great job!
I Love this quilt very Happy looking. I to love paper piecing, wish I knew how to change a pattern into a paper piecing pattern. If anyone knows how to do this please PM me thank you and Happy Thanksgiving
It doesn't look simple or easy. Beautiful trees. I agree flying geese would detract from this gorgeous quilt. Perhaps little bear paws if you are wanting an additional pattern. Just a thought.
Very nice job!

Your Jeweled Forest is beautiful. I have my pattern and bought a bunch of jeweled toned fat quarters to use in it. That is the first quilt I'm going to make after I recover from surgery on Monday. Hope I can get it done in time for Christmas. |

I was so inspired when you posted this the first time! I believe I understood that the pattern came from a magazine a couple of years ago, so I assume it is no longer available. But I couldn't get those trees out of my head! So I printed out the photo and drew out my own PP pattern, changed it just a bit by thickening the trunk. I did my three with Christmas prints because I made individual trees, and expect to use them as candle mats, small gifts for family members who will appreciate the work and love that went into them. I will try to post my pattern and a picture of one of the trees---my first attempt at photos since all the changes on the Board!
Love your trees. The colors are great.
Your forest looks spectacular on that background :) :) :)
Nice job. Do you know how to convert other blocks into a paper pieced pattern? If so, would you consider doing a tute for the rest of us?
it is looking really great. thanks so much for sharing your jeweled forest journey
I love the sharpness of PPing too. Nice forest.

I haven't received the pattern either, but I'm still hoping I will! But if I don't, will attempt it from the other versions that have been posted.

Very pretty! :)
It looks great, I can't wait to get the pattern. I really want to make it to hang in my foyer for the holidays.
Love your version! Thank you for sharing your progress, its been fun following along. I am not an expert at making PP patterns but I sometimes use this method when there are a lot of strangely shaped triangles. I have Electric Quilt 5 so I use it for this purpose but you can also use graph paper. Rhonda has generously donated her time to tutor us on the use of the EQ so maybe she will touch on this technique.

To Ms Peggybluebird : For some one without a pattern and then recreating it you have earned the title of "master" paper piecer in my book. Your draft is almost identical to the one in the magazine. Beautiful little tree.
Very pretty, well done
I like it just the way it is.
Thats a whole forest you have sewn!Very nice grove of trees!
Beautiful forrest. If I ever get done with the "beast", and two sweatshirts and one more tablerunner, maybe I can try it too.
