The French Rose Quilt picture made me want to try this pattern sooooo bad. Don't have the pattern so.......I tried one block of my own rose design (just cut out a few blobs) and also decided to try FMQ. I want to make a bed runner and have a plan in mind but do you all think it will look OK or should I make more of an effort to obtain the pattern? Ignore the FMQ as that is my first try.

Thank you for your opinions.

Cherylsea 02-20-2011 11:17 AM

I think you have the pattern down pat - really like your colors. Don't see anything wrong with the quilting either. Keep going.

Lindsey 02-20-2011 11:17 AM

Actually I think it looks pretty dang good. Thats the fun of it when you can draft something and call it your own.

shawnemily 02-20-2011 11:18 AM

Impressive!!!
That is really NICE for just a few "blob's"!
And the FMQ looks lovely too!!!
Great job!!

sandyo 02-20-2011 11:19 AM

looks wonderful to me

Looks reral pretty, and the quilting is looking great

quiltsRfun 02-20-2011 11:20 AM

Looks good to me. And I think you did a nice job with the quilting as well.

LoisN 02-20-2011 11:20 AM

Love, love, love it. Keep going. Your quilting is great too. Can't believe you can do things like this without a pattern. I'm a pattern kind of person. Your bed runner will be stunning.

bailey 02-20-2011 11:22 AM

Oh, thank you so much. Just wasn't sure. Now I will go cut out some more "blobs" and squares and get started. I will practice my FMQ a lot more before I attempt to quilt the bed runner but you gotta start somewhere! LOL

bailey 02-20-2011 11:22 AM

Sorry - somehow posted message twice.

SandyinZ4 02-20-2011 11:23 AM

Looks great to be also. I think you could do a QAYG thing and then it would be all finished when you got to the last block. I love it. After it is washed it will look even better with the ruffily (is that a word?) ruffles plural edges.

cjomomma 02-20-2011 11:27 AM

I can't wait to see it finished! It's going tone stunning.

Jenni M 02-20-2011 11:27 AM

I just love it! How delicate, feminine and elegant. Great work...you don't need a pattern!

QuiltingGrannie 02-20-2011 11:28 AM

Looks awesome to me, both the rose and your FMQ! Your block would make a really pretty book or Bible cover!

AnnieH 02-20-2011 11:31 AM

What a great start to this project. Love it so far and your first try at FMQ is excellent.

BarbaraTX 02-20-2011 11:31 AM

Stunning! I love it.

amma 02-20-2011 11:33 AM

You did a beautiful job on the applique and the quilting :D:D:D

slstitcher 02-20-2011 11:36 AM

I think it looks very nice.

maine ladybug 02-20-2011 11:40 AM

I think you've done a wonderful job. You don't need any help with a pattern. I'm sure it's going to be beautifu.

Mariposa 02-20-2011 11:42 AM

The rose is wonderful, and great quilting! Please show us pics of the runner! :)

Ginaky 02-20-2011 12:11 PM

I just did this in a class last week--yours looks great. We trimmed the fabric behind the first 3 petals we appliqued (not the smallest one) and we didn't clip the edges the way you have done--they will fray just fine without it. Her sample was very ragged looking, but the edges not clipped--I think that will make your petal stronger. You have done a really good job drafting this yourself!

nativetexan 02-20-2011 12:14 PM

your block is lovely. keep going. you have the idea and that's all you really need.

Thanks very much for the info about not clipping the edges. I will try that. I can always clip after if needed/wanted. Did you use any stabilizer behind your rose? I am not using any maybe I should?

tutty 02-20-2011 12:18 PM

Can you make me one too !! How about a tutorial !!! Please and thank you !!! Really nice and encourages me to fmq practice , more thanks

Looks gorgeous to me, can't wait to see the completed quilt.

Kimmy P 02-20-2011 03:10 PM

Looks pretty dang good to me! I have been doing searches for the pattern and am not having any luck, every one seems to be sold out. I thought about setting down and drawing it out, too. Good Job!

Tussymussy 02-20-2011 03:11 PM

It looks lovely and the quilting is great.

Debbie C 02-20-2011 03:14 PM
