Just Can't Throw Away Those Scraps
2 Attachment(s)
I have been doing some cleaning, reorganizing and had decided to dispose of some scraps, but in the middle of making this decision, I sat down at the sewing machine and turned scraps into two new tops. Sorry, could not get two of the photos to download. Check back later to see the yardage I pieced together and the other top.

I like it .......I talk to myself and say be a big girl and get rid of some of these scraps I go as far as grabbing a handful and hover over the trash can but can't release my hand to let them go they end up back in the scrap box

I know what you mean. I am the same way. I started sewing some but I can't decide which pattern to make so I made 3 or 4 blocks of 4 different patterns. I am in the process of finishing one UFO and then, I will start making one scrappy quilt top. I can't wait to see you other pictures. This one looks really nice in my opinion

wow awesome use of scraps
Thanks ! You have inspired me to dig in the scraps again and come up with a top !!!!!Hugs
nicely done
I like what you done with them
I am still trying to figure out why 2 photos worked and 3 did not. Going to try again. NOTE: This is just a small fraction of my scraps. I have a closet full. Uh oh, still won't work. Why oh why
very nice...
Those are too pretty to be thrown away. What a nice save!
You did a great job. I have increased the size of my scrap bin to accommodate ALL of my scraps!
You are inspiring me to collect all those scraps around here and get to work. I wonder how many hidden quilt tops I have. Beautiful top! looking forwad to seeing others!

Going to try these photos one more time...I think I made about 3 yds of fabric out of that 1 pile of scraps. Can barely tell I used any from that stack. I think it worked, I think it worked, I think it worked!
Yup it's hard to throw fabric away. I figure at just $9 a yard an inch of fabric from selvage to selvage is a Quarter. Pretty soon those quarters make a $ and off you go.
Oh I really like the this last quilt--definitely a Modern quilt! Thanks for sharing |
That turned out very well. Waste not, want not. : )
Hey, that looks great. And why not use those scraps? Look at all the yardage you got! With the cost of fabric these days we all want to get the most we can from our purchases. Your quilts look like they belong in an art gallery.
Very nice use of scraps. I do throw away anything not 2" square. I do keep 1" strips if long enough. I am making a scrappy also. Seems such a waste of time because I have lots and lots of yardage I should be making up. Oh well.
Love it! Great use of those scraps. I always try to hold to them too.
wow you sure dont waste scraps nice job!!!!
Very nice use of scraps - thanks for sharing.
Waste not, want not! Great job.
Great use of scraps. I also have so many to use up, and your quilts gave me some more ideas. Love all of them
I just love scraps, and should anyone give me a bag of scraps oh what a happy day. I have a collection of many of your scrape quilts I have saved on my tablet,
Love looking through them all |
Wow, string piecing to the extreme. Love it!
Great job with those scraps. The white just makes the colors 'pop'... Guessing you make up big squares, then cut them up?
Sounds like my thinking:thumbup: BEAUTIFUL PILE OF SCRAPS!!
Great use of scraps!
Spent hours last weekend sorting scraps and ended up dumping everything back into the container...lol. Had no idea what to do do. Now I know! Just sew and trim...right. Great idea. Thanks for freeing my brain. Now I'll be able to sew aimlessly at night. TU TU TU!!!
Julie in NM, you are right! Sewing aimlessly is part of the appeal of this type of scrap piecing. Sometimes I cut a foundation square and sew right on that and then don't use batting. Great light weight quilt. Sometimes I cut shapes out of the yardage I make. I also make long strips out of piecies that are about 4 to 6" in length and use them like Chinese coins. They make really cute baby quilts with appliques on the solid strips. I just love scrap quilts. Hope everyone makes at least a small happy, colorful, stress free scrap quilt after reading this thread.
Nice use of scraps!! I have tons of them that I can't bring myself to throw away. You have inspired me to use them up!
Love what you've done with them.
Wow, great work!!!!!
How do you make fabric from scraps? Is there a tute somewhere?
Those quilts/blocks are incredible. Absolutely love the last one. Could you show us how you do them?
I love what you did with those, so pretty. Sure happy you did not throw those scraps away.
I will take some photos and show you how I make yardage. I will start a new thread and call it "How to Make Yardage With Scraps." It is so easy and so much fun, both to make and to see what you can do with the fabric you have created.
Thank you!!!

With the increasing cost of new fabrics, why throw out scraps? If you can make a quilt with fabric purchased for about $5.00/yd, from your scrap pile, why go out and spend $10.00/yd for new fabric? Currently I have a postage stamp quilt on the go, using very small scraps I'd saved for several years.
I love it. Great job. I love making something out of what others would throw away.
Love your quilts. When I get up the nerve to open my scrap bin, I hope I do half as well.
