Our quilting guild is creating charity quilts from grab bags of fabric. We could add to the fabric in the bag if we wanted. I just finished the first quilt top, as I am making two quilts from the bag I took. I am pretty pleased with it, and this was a fun project.

I abandoned the first pattern I had selected, as I didn't quite have enough fabric. I added the light blue from my own stash. I am quite pleased with the results....and I keep telling myself that it really doesn't look like a tablecloth!

These particular quilts are being made for family members of folks who lost their homes in our recent wild fires. We call them comfort quilts, not charity quilts...but the idea is the same. This grab bag idea is my sister's idea, and I think it is a winner. We need about 50 quilts, and I think 50 grab bags got taken.

Anyway...please tell me it doesn't look like a tablecloth...

I got it from quilterscache.com. It is called Squares within Squares 2.
Go to the S's and scroll down. Make sure it has the 2. There are two pages to the pattern, and the only problem I had was it didn't say how much fabric you needed for a whole quilt...just how much was needed for one square.

Someone on this board had made a quilt using this pattern, but I can't recall who. That's how I found it. She said she made the top in 3 hours, but it took me longer than that. :) I am still fairly new to quilting.

Thanks everyone for saying it doesn't look like a tablecloth! I am starting to believe you. :)

It is beautiful! I am sorry to hear about the wildfires. Just thinking about them brings up my feelings and memories when we had them here. Scary! You are doing a wonderful thing by making these and I am sure the recipients will be comforted by these quilts.

xsquilter 05-15-2011 10:08 AM

That is so very pretty! So feminine....I love it!

The color blue is very restful! And isn't the state flower of Texas the bluebonnet?

Dina 05-15-2011 11:01 AM

You are right. Our state flower is the bluebonnet. I had not realized those were blue bonnets, but I believe you are right, they are. It has been so dry this year that there were not many bluebonnets, and those that came up died almost instantly. Sad. Usually we have them everywhere. (I live in the country. They aren't everywhere in town.)

lpsewing 05-15-2011 11:06 AM

The colors are so soft & sure to be comforting to some one very dear.
